Growing up in the 60's, most of the dad's loaded up their sons the first few days of summer for a hair cut. That meant close and tite all around or the Marine cut. It must have been 1969 and my buddies decided to not go along with the summer cut. They came from a family of 11 kids with 5 girls, 6 boys. Normally Mr Wherry would put them in back of the company pick up truck, and drive them to Joe's barbershop. Note he worked for a construction company and in the 60's every one road in the bed of trucks, today they would fire him for that!
Tim was a year older from me and always the ring leader can up with the plan that after dad loaded them in the truck they would wait to he got to the end of the driveway then jump out and run into the woods and hide.
Mr Wherry was pissed and nabbed a few of the younger kids on the spot and they came back with extra short cuts. Over the next few nights after he work he grabbed the rest and they all ended up with skin heads for the summer.
My dad warned my brother and I if we tried it, he would get the same. But over the next few years long hair was really in and we all just kept fighting and when I was in high school my hair was long and I never visited Joe!
