Hello RDP, I'm well aware the sandbar is closed holidays... So being the 4th is on Wednesday. Anyone have an idea what the closure dates are this year? 6-1 thru 7-9? Calls have been made to most all of the agencies and still no clue... So we are relying on the brain trust of RDP... (scary right?) Thanks in advance.

That's because none of the agency's want to admit they are illegally closing down part of a federal reserve. But if you keep an eye out for the SB sheriff boat leaving the Havasu Landing with all of the Buoys on it you will know it's closing.

ps: If you call the local number for the San Bernardino Sheriff Havasu Landing sub station they may give the answer.

Honestly, does anyone agree with me that closing the sandbar is damn near outdated these days? With the resorts upriver now, noone stops anyways. The reeds have taken over the middle. Its not like it used to be. The whole lake has a different vibe. Its everyone rushing to go nowhere. I dunno.

Well to agree with the second poster I’m not entirely sure that whole program is “legal.” I don’t think anyone has challenged it yet to be honest..

On another positive note copper canyon is back open just most don’t know it.

Thanks Guys! A season or 2 ago our group received warning letters in the mail for being there during a posted closure day, It was something like the Thursday before a holiday weekend.... I guess the Cork-Suckers were hiding in the reeds with their binoculars... We knew it was closed but figured we would chill till they told us to leave, instead we got a love letter in the mail... Be safe this weekend guys!

Totally agree, its been years since I've even thought about hanging out there. Years. Like ever since people got leaches all over their legs...:p

I heard it’s closed July 3-5. Should be good to go on Friday the 6th.

Havasu as a municipality doesn't have a great unified message to the crowd I know of- they are getting there but in the wrong way.
Wonder why all the nadda regattas ? The city makes it expensive to hold an "official event".

It often screws itself with arbitrary unwritten and tribal only knowledge of whats going on and in so limits its industry.
So much so that it jeopardizes its own base income - vacation boaters.
Imagine driving for three days to get her only to find out no one told you couldn't go here or there?

On big weekends the city could likely get tons of volunteers to help police the big areas.

A volunteer brigade of sober captains - A few hanging out on somebodies volunteer pontoon
A modest charge to access a brigade of sober captains either to tour the hot spots to newbies or for safety
A Unified place to get info about the lake and boating on it.

They could get sponsorship money to help, local community money on a holiday like the 4th sunscreen companies etc...
Id bet simply by being creative and spending a little vs a ton of money the city could be a world-class destination from a boating community perspective.

If people would just start growing pot in all the weeds up there at The Sandbar they'll have to cut it all down and then you'll get the Sand Bar back just something to think about

And if they don't we all still win...
