Checkpoint was below Topock today. They had 10 boats pulled over. I made it through without being stopped. I am just curious what they check. Do they search your boat? Or just check safety equipment and BUI test. Did anyone get stopped???

Unfortunately they have the right to search anything they want, whenever they want... You no longer have any rights... :D

That can't be right.. Pretty sure you have to display safety equipment, I dent think they can arbitrarily search your boat?

I'm no lawyer but that can't be right..

Here is a tip For you guys by the way.. If you dknt actually enter the bouys you DON'T have to go into the check point. You can back up and turn around.. Doesn't matter if they are waiving you in or not.

Been there done that a couple of years ago. I was ask if I had had anything to drink which i replied "had a wine cooler about four hours ago" so after he gave me about four different test he then tells me that I fail all given test and that he was going to have to give me a breathalyzer test.

So the results on the breathalyzer came in at "0" he then tells me that I had told him that "I had four wine coolers in the last hour" I was on my way after about an hour without any further issues.

Good to know. So it's like a DUI checkpoint on the streets. I always avoid those, I have places to be and don't want them wasting my time. I turn around and find another route.

You will be ask to show your safety equipment, US Coast Guard approved life jackets for everyone on board, fire extinguisher, throwable, and maybe a horn or whistle. But the true reason for stopping you is to see if you are impaired. Flip up your sunglasses and show them that you are not afraid and never ever ever admit to having anything to drink. "Just one an hour ago" is probably cause and you will be tested.

I just have everything ready to go and easy to show them. I don't drink and typically they can tell right away just by looking at me. Dad and brother are usually pretty hammered but if they stay quite there's never an issue.

Drove right through yesterday. Guy on the ski just nodded at me. Guess it helps to have four kids on front of boat.
