The other night, texts go off. PD update, "avoid area, major traffic collision..." 5:30 in the evening, dinner time. A freshman from my son's school was hit by a guy in a work truck. First on scene were two off duty firemen. They did what they could, and a helicopter was called in. Gabe, the young man, didn't survive his injuries. It hit the school pretty hard yesterday.
Info has now come out. I'd heard the driver was "detained", but not much else. Now, it turns out this guy had just slashed his wife's tires, screaming and yelling, sped off when cops were called. Haven't heard if he was drunk or high, but it won't change what happened. He, moments after fleeing, struck and killed a boy headed home for dinner.
