Looking to buy a windshield for the rzr (like now....) before our christmas - new years offroad trip. There is a windshield I like, but it doesn't have vents at the bottom. Seems like the reviews are mixed on whether or not you need a vents? At night (or when real cold) i'd definitely prefer non-vented, but is it a dust control issue? What if you add the dust cutter screen behind the rear seats, still need a vented front window? Whats the magic combo? XP41k, stock doors with lower inserts, if that plays into the equation.

I have no real valuable experience or input, however it is $10 cheaper directly from the manufacturer.

I would think ventless would be best in the winter... dust will get everywhere regardless.

I drove one around the neighborhood with a vented windshield.. I think it is just to give you a little air when it is warm.

I just installed one sold by UTVzilla on ebay. Has vents and a wiper. May never use either, but nice options to have. $329 and was easy to install.

Thinking i'll end up with some BTH headsets and those cut away helmets, cool combo with the windshield. Just roll with sunglasses a'la sandrail style

I was looking at those, seemed like the field of vision was a little small? Does it bother you or is it ok?

That seems like a legit and money saving solution.. Keeps you out of a full face wired helmet, and by extension needing a pumper. And you can use the same headsets all the time.

You'll be amazed how much heat and dust the full windshield holds in
Too hot in summer
Vents all day long
You can always cover them up if it's too cold
You can't go the other way

Yea but summer is for boats! We put the rzr away in early April, and it usually doesnt come back out till mid-oct. So-Cal desert season

We ride northern az and it's in the 50's sometimes and the half windshield is fine.
I have another half windshield to velcro on if it's too cold or it rains.
The wife even says it's too warm when i put up the 2nd windscreen so there ya go.
I would look into the 50/50 flip down windshield if i were to do it again

Our windshield experience with both the Ranger and RZR, not following anybody, riding alone were --- with full windshield and open rear, we were quickly covered in dust.
Installed plastic and canvas rear, almost no dust, again riding alone. So most all the dust was getting sucked in from the rear. I've had no experience with a mesh rear.
We've now gone with a half windshield, deflects most of the air and for most days it's fine, especially when it's warm. For the RZR we'd purchased both front and rear, got caught running into the sun late one afternoon and couldn't see a damned thing. Switched to the half with no rear and never put the full back on, even on the cold winter days riding in the mountains. But yes, the ole nose can get a bit numb, lol, watch cap covers the ears, but at least I can see, yippee !!

Most of my buddies run a full glass windshield and it's pretty damn nice in the desert. It's wierd that the sandrails don't seem to have the dust issue inside but the rzr's do. The rails sort of have the same design going - tubular cage upper with solid sides from the beltline down, enclosed front with a windshield.

Just don't want to start a dust storm inside the car, but seems like lower doors and a cutter in the rear mitigate that. I guess we'll see....if I hate it i'll take it off. We ride only in the winter so it gets chilly, especially at night

Go with vented. Having been on many rides with and without a windshield, here's my $.02 worth.

When my buddy added a widnshield to his 900 I took a ride in it. The first thing I said was "It's hot in here. No air flow". He was happy with it until I said that. From then on all he could focus on was how stuffy it made the ride and removed the windshield before the weekend was over.

The wickerbill on the shorty directs the wind above at speeds.

That is when it is over 80 out, not 60.

I have only been on one ride since the install, but I liked it. Was similar to what i had on the sand car. you still get plenty of dust in the car, but that cold wind straight to the face is gone.

Still need to wear goggles or does it cut down the immediate dust to your face / eyes?

I wore sunglasses all day, but there were a few times when following too close i thought about breaking out the goggles. It just reminded me to always be in the lead!

Are you going with plastic or glass ? At least with glass you could stop and wipe it off.
I thought my plastic full windshield (With rear) was fine until that one afternoon long ride into the sun --- I was freaking blind due to the fine scratches (And I was always careful cleaning it) and built up dust.
The dust problem we had without the rear on was super fine slit that had settled on our laps, legs, head, shoulders, that just kinda poured off us as we got out, lol.
Perhaps the dust cutter mesh breaks up that vacuum vortex ?

I dunno.
But the company 'clearly tough' was great to deal with and it fit as advertised. Shipped fast also

We have the glass one from extreme metal. It is vented. We ran it for a season before getting a rear window. The vents do a good job of controlling the dust and the rear window was a further improvement. My vote is vent.

I don’t like looking out windshields. Dust usually isn’t a problem for me since I lead most of the time

Some buggies do have that issue, ones that are fully sealed in the front. Most buggies aren't fully sealed though and have a little opening under the hood, or suspension pivot points, or where steering shaft passes thru, etc.. those act as a vent.

My recommendation is a shorty with a forward facing lip. You are riding in the dirt. You are going to get dusty no matter what.

The front lip helps extremely. I am 6'2" and it pushes the air over my head and through the back to keep the dust down.

All I do is desert riding all summer and all winter. I could not imagine a full windshield without vents during the summer. During the winter I put on a jacket. Simple. You can always add layers to stay warm. You can only take so much off though to stay cool.

Just never wipe the plastic ones down. I always rinse with a hose first, then wipe dry with a terry cloth or other some soft towel.

you need to get a jeep..:p

That's what I was thinking. Serious question, now that SxS's are approaching, and some with mods have passed the cost of a Jeep, where is the benefit of a SxS for a desert application?

I would say speed and handling. Jeeps are great and all but unless heavy mods are in place a SxS will leave them in the dust. Yes you can mod out a SxS too, I have a few, honestly though everything else I have ever ridden in or driven across the desert beats up my kidneys. I have suspension seats and adjust my shocks accordingly to the speed and all I can say is it is a blast and my kidneys and back don't hurt near as much.

We went out around silverwood after the rains. One stock razor, no windshield, no full doors. We were soaked and muddy. But we could see, and didn’t have to stop. One buddy had full doors and windshield on the can am, no wipers. Warm and dry, but had to stop constantly and clean the windshield.

I'd still rather have 60° wind wearing warm gear than having no air flow. The dust swirls around behind the windshield, never ejected. I'd say no windshield period.....vented or not.

I generally agree but it comes down to personal preference.

I tried the windshield deal and no matter what your going to get dusty....period!

We ended up installing Race Air and Full Face Helmets. No more blowing brown crap out of my nose for 3 days anymore. It’s also helped a lot keeping my allergies in check which was an added bonus!
