We finally picked up a rzr and want to know what are the necessities to have on board. It has a spare. Also came with a co2 bottle for tire fill ups. Besides the obvious ( lug wrench, tire repair kit and of course extra belt). What do you carry that has been a must have? What kind of jack do you use to change a tire if needed on the trail?

Tow strap with soft ends so it wont jack up the towers rig.
Tire plug kit and small 12v compressor
Misc open end wrenches.
Small hammer
Small bag of electrical crap.
Flash lights. Im surprised by how this gets missed

From what I've seen on here, some people just need a cellphone for calling a rollback that'll take it to the repair shop.

:D

I use an automotive scissor jack. You can get one out of a car or small truck. Make sure it will go high enough to get a tire off the ground. You can get one from a car much cheaper than buying a “UTV” branded Jack.
Also throw a couple 2x4 sections 12-15 inches long in there, as well as a couple 3 inch sections. You can use those as a solid footing for the jack, or as spacers to get more height.

Tire pressure gauge is nice to have, especially a 0-15 PSI one.

TORX SOCKETS!!!!
LUG NUT KEY!!!!!!
Extra belt
Open end wrench set,
Allen wrench set
3/8 Socket set
1/4 socket set
Socket extensions
Pliers set w/ dykes
Screw driver set
Small hammer,
Regular hammer
Zip ties
Fuses
Good box cutter (to cut shredded belt off)
Flashlight
Duct tape
Electrical tape
Safety wire
Small kit of wire terminals
Cheap voltmeter
A set of mechanics gloves

I carry a 12v emergency tire inflator, the CO2 wont be enough most likely

I got an aluminum belt changing tool, but you can use the stock small one.. make sure you got it with the machine

Tow strap
Axle strap or two

Small 1 inch light duty lash straps and/or ratchet straps

Get a front tow hook for the RZR if it does not have one already.

Probably more I’m forgetting, but you get the idea.

I fit all my crap in an 8 gallon Action Packer.

Extra belt, ok sure. Make sure you have all the tools for a quick change. Including needle nose plyers and razor knife. The belts dont magically break cleanly. I had tools for a guy in this scenario Saturday, in the dark

Small block of wood to put under jack in some conditions, a simple scissor jack will work, a belt, a tire plug kit, screw drivers, metric wrench’s, tow strap, 8 mm nut driver for belt cover, clutch tool for changing belt, duct tape, bailing wire, pliers, LED headlamp. Razor knife, I’m sure there is more but that what I carry.

In all honesty this sounds a little dumb, but once you get your crap together at least do a front and rear wheel jack test in your garage. Make sure you can get the tires off the ground with what you have, and know where to place the jack. Also do a belt R&R so you know what to expect if you have to do it for real, and to know you have right tools to do it.

Excellent advice - once you use the required tools to change a tire and a belt — put those in the SxS. Plus other tools, but those are minimum.

Flashlights and cellphones charger are great ideas as well

And maybe not for your tool box because it will never get charged, but get a small jump box if you run the battery down.

This small one is $30 and will start the RZR, charge a phone etc.

Thanks guys. Looks like I will start a separate tool bag for this toy. I carry a portable jump starter with me in all my vehicles. This is my first off road car. Had dirt bikes before this. Trying to get ahead of the game instead of learning what I need st at time when I don’t have it!

Nice suggestions.

It sounds like a lot, but it's better to have a tool and not need it than to need it and not have it...

I think choosing the right jack is the most important part. I was going to buy a scissor jack throw my hi lift out of my Jeep into my Rhino but didnt feel like it was the safest option when out on the trails. I actually almost went full send and bought a pro eagle until i came across this cool setup. All in one bottle jack, jack stand with adjustable height. I highly recommend this if you can find a spot to mount this in. Ive already had to use it a hand full of times and its probably one of the best purchases ive made so far

I never go anywhere without one of these. Saved my ass when my Voltage Regulator shit the bed 20 miles from camp. Just clipped it to my battery and was able to make it back without a tow :D

I have a micro start deal in the glove box. Straps. Factory tool kit. Tire plugs and a mini compressor.

You only need a jack if you’re traveling solo. If not, a strap tied to your cage and another sxs will pull you over enough to change your tire.

In our group if all else grenades, guys drive their Rzr back to camp on the flat.
If it ain't repairable on the trail then it usually is a goner anyway and what the hey, head home, run flat easy.

Replacement spares are about $500 over the counter w/wheel. Parker Yamaha sells new take offs for around $300.
I keep one in the back of the truck cable locked.

Also the micro starts seem to always be on sale at COSTCO with a significant discount. Kinda go thru the jump start routine in the garage or in camp so you don't have to figure it out on the trail and discover ya need some special tool to access the batteries. You should have dual batteries with the isolator.

We needed to desperately get the wheels off Big Guns Rzr after a wreck in the middle of the empty dunes and Big Guns had left the special lug tool on the cigarette machine at Hook Nose Larrys bar in Jerusalem.

Also something nice I got in December for the RZR was a waterproof dry bag. They have them in multiple sizes, I got a 20L one that has back pack straps. I got it to put sweaters jackets and hats in as it warms up during the day. It is also good for holding paper towels, toilet paper etc. I just bungee cord it over the action packer in the bed.

You roll it up and clip it and the inside of the bag stays perfectly clean and dry.

Where do they sell action packers nowadays? I looked all over for one or a nice rugged locking lid box.. No luck. Everything was too thin and flimsy at all the usual stores

Home Depot, Amazon, Walmart.

Home Depot has a 4 pack for $75, by far the best deal. You order online and they will ship it to your local store for free otherwise It will be $30-$40 for 1.

I just used the screw in expanding bed hooks, a lash strap and my kustom bracket bolted to the engine cover to hold it in place. It has worked great. By far the best bang for the buck storage solution I could find.

We carry a good first aid kit and all of the RNs we know and my wife swear by this stuff.
They use the hell out of it in hospitals and it’s more available off the shelf.

I tore my arm open deluxe simply reaching under the X3 seat and this stuff works.

We came across a roll over and the drivers head and passengers hand were sliced open like they were in a hatchet fight and with a STFU and a blast of this on the wounds was an amazing help.

Walmart Bandaid section.

Couple more parts to think about having in your box, or at least at home for service:

1 1/16 socket to remove an axle

1/8 x 1 1/2 inch Cotter pins

For a lug wrench I recommend this style of lug wrench it is collapsible and has a 1/2” drive so it doubles as a breaker bar if you need to remove an axle or need extra leverage.

We broke a radius rod off Shea rd. Sent someone to Parker Yamaha to get a new one, and changed it in the desert. lol. We’ve also changed belts. I’ve put 15 plugs in a sidewall to get home before. Its all part of the adventure.

I use the same set-up with an AO Soft Cooler right in front of it. I picked up my Action Packer @ REI. They were actually the cheapest place around too. Who knew? lol

Yep, and AO 24 pack cooler fits great with some space left over after the Action Packer goes in.

That is my program. I got the vinyl AO, not the canvas one. I hate soft coolers and this AO is proving to be ok.

Yeah In hindsight I wish I got the vinyl instead of canvas. It’s a mess after a few rides in the desert.
