Don’t fool yourself. The x3 need work too. They are better stock for stock but I bet I can walk away from an stock x3 in the rough stuff

No I get it. There are other things too. I’m a big guy, and the interior room of the x3 is amazing. I just see the 72” cars on 35’s and think daaaaamn they must ride amazing compared to my little skinny car on. 30’s

The RZR is damn near paid off, it would be a BITTER pill to swallow to drop another chunk of change on a different car. It just rides so shitty. Spare mount, intercom / radio / and suspension work and it’s probably a “done” car.

The car is awesome with revised suspension. I have been amazed at how well it rides, and seen how uncomfortable others with stock suspension cars have been over the same terrain.

I just did a full intercom and radio setup for quite a bit less than Rugged or PCI.. got most of it from a place in Ventura.

I can send you the link for the good liftback spare tire mount for $250 or so. The Assault and other expensive ones break..

And do you really want to spend $300+ per tire for 35s?

Shoot me the radio info too.

If it’s the spare mount that UTV Kingz makes and sells to Triumph, I have support bars on the rear of my cage that won’t let me run that. Gotta run the cage werx / assault setups.

Thanks.

Mine was stupidly high off the jack after the install. I drove it about 50 feet and it dropped an inch and a half. It is still almost 2 inches higher than it was before :)
I need to measure mine, you are measuring it with car empty? My front is super high which I don't mind but my shocks top out quite a bit. Pretty much only drove car by myself so far since shock work so extra 160 pounds may help some.

Yea it is empty. I already had Eibach springs on it and measured it empty before I pulled the old stuff off. Same Eibach springs went on the new shocks.. even the preload is really close to where it was before so I’m kinda unsure where the extra height came from, unless the shocks are just that tight. I actually measured again this afternoon and it is 1 3/8” higher than it was before.

I texted Ed to get a sanity check, but I may lower it to where it was before I head out this weekend because I am a bit worried about excessive top out as well.

How much did just the springs help?

I bought the car with the springs and a revalve already done. I’m told the springs help more than the revalve.... and after seeing how poor the stock springs are I believe it.

Think of it this way.. revalving the shocks is useless if the springs don’t hold the car up or are too soft or hard..

Springs are easy enough to do yourself in the garage, and you won’t lose out on the investment with a shock re valve down the road.

If I was going this route you can save a couple hundred bucks by sourcing the springs yourself and not buying a “kit” for a RZR with the associated markup.

That is the spare mount I have.. there is 6 1/4” between the mounts. If that does not work I’ll bet you could have a fab shop widen the mount and powder coat the whole thing to match your cage for less than the Assualt deal..

As far as the radio deal, I went through sampsonracing.com

https://www.sampsonracing.com/

They have a intercom deal on EBay, and they will set you up with over the head, behind the head or helmet kits for the same price. If you search them by that seller you can see other 4 place options as well.

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/132538267682

They also have a 25 watt mobile 2 way radio on their website. It is the same radio as the Rugged RM25 that they no longer carry.

The Avcomm intercom is identical to a PCI intercom, it has the same mounts and dimensions. It has vox and is expandable to 12 headsets, but does 4 as it comes.

You can 2 a barebones 2 place intercom and radio deal for about $700.. and with options the price goes up from there. I ended up doing flush mounted Nexus plugs in the center console, and dash mounted PTT buttons, so that drove up the price.

It was still cheaper than a Rugged 2 place kit on Black Friday sale

When I picked up my stuff, they said they would do a group buy on radio and intercom setups. If we get 5 people we can start to get some discounts.

Baller.

Cliff notes : From the factory they all suck in different ways. Buy a gently used one someone else paid to have it un-sucked.

In all seriousness it is slightly frustrating at times because there are so many parts and modifications out there, some off the shelf and some custom, you need to do your homework to see if Part X will work with Part Y and Modification Z you already have.

These threads make me want to trade my Viking for a RZR, but I know the bug to upgrade is real- and expensive! What does it cost to do the 2.5 tuned shock upgrade on one of these?

Rugged is having one of their big ol sales again. Went with the 60 watt radio and 4 place icomm (only 2 headsets. Kids don’t need to hear yet... lol) with mount and XTC harness. Eff it.

Yeah that spare mount won’t work. Shame. 289 is a far cry better than 419.

Lol

GPS is easy...$270 shipped for an Elite 5 TI.

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/312015311867

You are going down a slippery slope with the GPS mount lol.

I have a UTVInc GPS mount but it is for the older HD5/elite/trophy Lowrance GPS. I made an adapter plate to make my Elite 5 TI GPS fit, then got a PCI intercom mount for a RZR 800 and bolted it to the bottom of the metal GPS mount. It came out really solid, but took some research and a little customization.

Rugged has nice mounts but If you are going to put the radio where the storage bin is, you just have to put the GPS elsewhere. Rugged does make mount to mount them under the storage bin with may work for you and with a GPS mount like mine.

PCI makes a mount to put the GPS to the right of the speedo. It is great unless you have switches there like I did. You want the PCI mount for the Elite TI/Ti2, this is the older HD5/Elite/Trophy but you get the idea.

Awesome. That is definitely the easy button when they have their sales going.

Idid the same thing.. I have all the stuff for a 4 place icom but only set it up for 2. On slower rides with the kids we just talk anyway.

I’d do the Cage Wrx spare tire mount over the Assault deal all day long.

Legit.. agreed.

I was skeptical but my bud romps the shit out of his stuff. Like... it’s clapped out in a year. He’s got more money than he knows what to do with.

All the aftermarket bolt on stuff broke over time. He bought one of these and it’s been flawless. Plus he has a place for his ice chest and tools.

I’ve seen one, they are very well built. I would not hesitate other than the price. I have my Action Packer and 24 can soft cooler in the bed. The folding tire carriers certainly limit the cargo in the bed so you have to think that program out.

I still have enough space to bungee cord down a small backpack under the tire, but what I really want is a round dustproof bag that sits inside the wheel of my spare tire that I could put a couple sweatshirts or hats in.

Well... shit.

I saw your mount and wanted it there. I bought the rugged below storage bin mount.

I have my sons older iPad I was going to try and use, it seems you can get better mapping...? All the lowrances I’ve seen have been triangles in the middle of blank screens. I want something that’ll show the trail I’m on. Etc.

I can’t mount it up by the speedo either as I do run switches there too.

I was told the Lowrance wasn’t very good and to go with an iPad and LeadNav app. I have credit for a Lowrance and was planning on picking up a 7TI until I heard that. Any truth to what I was told?

It was not bad making that mount work for my GPS. You actually don’t have to modify the mount at all. The Lowrance comes with a template you can use.

I just used a rectangle piece of .050” aluminum, cut to fit in the back of the GPS mount, then drilled the holes for it and bolted it down to the mount. Then took the template Lowrance gives you, traced my shape on the piece I bolted in, pulled it out of the mount, cut the traced hole, painted it black, and bolted the GPS to it.

I used a jig saw, drill and a dremel. You can do it with just the drill and jig saw.

You’ll need to get some small nuts and bolts from Home Depot Racing for bolts for the plate and for the GPS to the plate.

There are tons of mapping apps for an IPad which is good. The problem is if you go out in the middle of the desert it is generally not mapped.. I don’t know that you are gonna see any trails, except for your major marked BLM or state trails anyway..

So you build your trails and waypoints as you go, and/or get trails and waypoints from others.

The iPad is probably a better overall device to use, yes, especially if you already have an extra one lying around. There are endless apps, you can put your music on it, it will map and track, etc.

The Lowrance does everything I wanted it to do...

I can set it to trace my route so I can go back the way I came so I can’t really get “lost”.

I can create waypoints with names and notes as immon the trail or at a desk via Google Earth.

I can create, import and share trails I create with Google Earth, or create them from rides I go on. It is easy enough to read, and is touchscreen.

That was enough for me, and it was $260. I don’t want to put in a new dash, so I have no idea where I’d mount an IPad and still have access to everything else.

Good to know. I don’t have any interest in buying an iPad to take out in the dirt. I may just stick with the Lowrance and be done with it.

Thanks!

No i get it. The Lowramce is better suited for the ruggedness of a rzr. I know PCI sells the terrain maps for CA NV AZ, and I wonder how detailed they are.

Alllmost just pulled the trigger on the eibach stage 3 springs... read amaZing reviews. I’d need a divorce lawyer with it I’m sure. Something about moving into the new house being more important than the toy...?

I have not looked at all the map options, but none seem to have any significant amount of the trails and washes that are around Havasu detailed. They seem to focus on state parks, BLM lands, etc.

The toy is very important :)

So Ashley, what would 4 heims and 4 bungs cost? Cut oem rods and weld on the bungs.

Cheap helms are what ~$15-$20 each plus a few more for a bung.

The problem is you can still jump on the stock rods and bend them lol.

It seems my problem was rare.. usually people bend the rod, not wear out the heim.

So it's a super inexpensive fix to one end with a heim then finish using them until bent. Lol, that's the frugal side of me talking, the baller side says buy the most expensive, tricked out, can't be without ones.:p:D:cool:

That is what I was going to do.. then said I’ll just spend $199 for 4 new ones. Most aftermarket sets are $400-$600, so this was a value and unquestionably better than stock. If I heim wears again they simply unscrew and I can put on a new one.

The OE rods from Polaris are $140 each or something stupid like that.

All four for $200 does make more sense economically, especially if they are significantly better.

They were lighter than stock too. If these break I will have a host of other more serious problems. So far so good!

So tempted to pick up the Shock Therapy spring kit.. they’re offering free shipping..........

My car would basically be “done”

Better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission!!?

Yes. It is for you and your family’s comfort and safety. :)

FYI I don’t think it matters, but the Shock Therapy kit no longer uses Eibach springs.

Also EBay has 15% off until 6PM today if you find a spring kit and buy it there..

Eibach stage 3 for XP41K... $784 shipped... plus 15% off

Eibach stage 3 is just springs.

Shock therapy stage 4 spring kit would be roughly equivalent. Their stage 4 ride improvement is different and that includes sway bars and shock revalving.

Both spring kitsdo the same thing. You are just talking differences in spring rates at that point, and that can be specific to your tases, how you drive the car, and how much cargo and stuff is on your car.

....I still haven’t replaced my bent lower rod, which is the entire reason I clicked this thread in the first place. [emoji23][emoji23]

Went with the ruff stuff specialties radius rod kit

I don't know dick about SXSs, but this being the internet, I'll chime in. The bent rod in your first photo looks fragile. The bump stop really whacked it. Do they get damaged often, or does it take an unusual incident to bend them?

It looks like a great place to spend some bucks on an upgrade. Is this the part you replaced with the above aftermarket pieces?

If that suspension part fails at speed, obviously the front end is gonna drop, dig in, and the car will roll until the momentum is disippated.

I know I'm being Captain Obvious and that I'm always harping about safety, so excuse me once again. I guess that's from seeing bad boating accidents and crashed race cars.

It appears the SXS is like every other fun toy...once it's purchased, there are unlimited opportunities to spend huge amounts of money on it. :D

No, I believe level 4 is just shocks as well which include both upper and lowers opposed to uppers only on level 3. I guess I’m asking is there any major differences. I have a full radius cage, a spare to the rear of cage, and some misc cargo weight. Would like to attack terrain at times and not as hard with family. It appears shock therapy comes with a crossover ring that claims to help both shocks work better together.
