RV Tires

Due for new tires on my Ford F53 chassis RV, what does the brain trust recommend? My grandparents (full time) swear by michelin but I'm not sure I need to spend ~$525/tire for how few miles I put on my RV compared to them living full time. Does anyone have experience with the Toyo M143? Any other recommendations?

Is there any value in putting (2) higher quality tires on the steers for better control and ride quality and then putting cheaper tires on the drives?

I just put tires on my new to me RV. Ford F53 chassis. 245/70r/19.5 I went back and forth about on different options. I ended up at the Mexican tire shop for some off brand tires. All 6 tires mounted and balanced for $1320.00.

Drove to black meadows from peoria for the 4th. Drove nice to me. I don't have much to compare to as it had some off brand tires to start but they were old so I replaced them.

When I could afford it, I always ran Michelin.

This last time, I went with what the tire shop by me recommended. They promised I would have no issues with them, as they were an off brand made by Cooper Tire.

Been three years so far. No problems or cracking at all.

My 2cents
On my gasser I would use Walmart brand as they had the best price 19.5. They were great and I did that twice throughout the 8 years we had it. Never one problem.
The DP we have now has the Toyo M177 and I like them so far.

Previously HAd Hankooks A11 which were a huge improvement over the OG Goodyears.. I really liked them . I ran the Hankooks for 7 years and just went to Dynatracs.. .. $2200 for 6

Nice ride, still much much better than the Goodyears

Hankooks were a bit out of budget.. the Dynatracs are very reasonable and not made in china

Michelin is the only thing I will run on my rig. But I have a buddy that swears by Toyo.

I’m running Toyo M122’s on mine. Really happy with them. Couldn’t justify the Michelin price for the amount I drive it.

I have roadmasters on the rear of my Seneca replacing Michelin's that come on it. They work ok but they seem to cause more oversteer than the Michelin. Putting more pressure seems to help but I will probably go back to the Michelin when they wear out.

I am between Dynatrac's, Falken's and Toyo's. Supposedly Falken's are a subsidiary of Sumitomo? I have had great success with Falken's on our Yukon but not sure for the moho. Les Schwab was pushing the Falken's and when I questioned them he said that they have to stand behind them and wouldn't sell anything that would jeopardize their name. Another place said he puts mostly Dynatrac's on moho's now and said every tire has to meet the same specs in the US regardless of where it is made. I have a set of Toyo's on the front of mine right now and no issues? Toyo seems to have gone up a bunch though?

I don't want a blowout but I also don't have $5000 for Michelin's.

Happy with Falken’s I purchased from SimpleTire. Went with different treads for the steers versus the drives as we are occasionally off paved roads. Made is the USA, handling and ride is better than the factory Goodyears.

I went with Toyos on mine. They ride well, track well, and are holding up great. Although I have 22.5s on my pusher, I think the 19.5s would be similar.

I replaced 6 tires on my MH with Yokohamas, they are about a year old and have been good. Seems like an overall better ride than the older Michelin's I had on there before.

I have been told by a local tire shop that coincidentally is located next to an RV dealer, and they do the tires on all of the trade-ins that you shouldn't waste your money on big-name tires as you will never get the life expectancy out of them.

Realistically you are supposed to change tires every 5-7 years, which means you might get ~20K miles out of them, so why blow your wad on the expensive stuff?

I was talking to Lee Schwab yesterday to revisit the Toyo/Falken convo and he said that he is all in on the Falken as Toyo, Michelin and others haven't changed/updated their compounds or technology in the last decade at least. He said that the sidewalls are stiffer on the Falken's which will help with less body roll. I have 2 Toyo's on it now with no issues...decisions, decisions.

This. Just had this conversation with a guy who is a tire distributor for most of the big brand stores. He said change them sooner and don’t waste money on big name brands if you don’t drive it a lot. He said it’s only worth it if you’re a full time RVr if not and it sits for a month out two at a time don’t bother.

Been happy with the sumitomo tires on it currently but I would have to go to another shop. Would love to stick to my current shop, they have hooked me up in the past and I like to stick with them as long as these tires are a reliable buy.
