I've seen some of these new RV's with these 15-30 ft long lights that run along the top and face down. They are led. I need more lighting outside my trailer. I want this but can't seem to find anything like it. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I use led Christmas light Icicles hanging off my awning. Plenty of light and very battery efficient.

You are talking about the LED rope lights some will have them built into the awning but alot of people install them on the rv just under the awning.

I asked a guy who had a brand new Carbon 5th wheel. He said his cane brand new that way. Looked more like a huge LED truck light bar.

LED strip is built into the awning, when it is out the whole area is brightly lit.

My 2016 TT came with the LED strip under the awning. It is also available at most RV outlets with remote controls that can change colours as well.

Is it mounted to the trailer or built into the awning?

I just purchased an 14' waterproof LED light strip off Amazon and stuck it on my RV. The strip has double stick tape and pretty easy to do. I think I spent $40 total on all parts. I liked the idea of attaching the light strip up under the awning so it emits bright light when the awning is out but didnt want to screw myself either for those times we camp in campgrounds and you dont have enough room to put the awning out- you dont have much light. Something to keep in mind. Look on amazon, there is tons of stuff on there.

Did you just leave the cord hanging and plug it in when you use it?

The new ones are attached to the awning material at the very top, it is a flat strip. I would take another pic for you but we had easy up damage from a neighbor camp site Memorial weekend so it is off in repair.

I was actually able to run my wires down the back side of my fridge and use the same outlet the fridge plugs into. It's a plug that has power off my inverter so I can always have the lights on. I can take pix tomorrow if you want to use as reference.

That would be great! Thanks. How did you poke the wire in?

It is a strip attached at the base of the awning and the wire running inside the front awning strut were the power goes to the awning motor.I could go see the trailer [ only minutes away from my house ] tomorrow and take a pic where the wires go through.

My dad picked up one of those waterproof LED strips and added it to his trailer. It has the remote and can change color and all as well. He just drilled through the wall and ran the wire inside. It came out above the storage shelf over the door then he just fished the wore over to his 12v source (believe it was the wiring for the 12v TV outlet). Work really well and are super bright. They are on the trailer under the awning.

Here are a few picks how I ran my set up. You can see the light strip is stuck to the outside of my rig right up under the awning but not attached to the awning.

I then ran the white wire down the back side of my fridge, I was able to fish the wire down to the power supply outlet. There should be a plug if you pop your fridge grill off.

I ran this antenna wire that controls the lights to the bottom grill, you can barely see the wire sticking out usually. This controls the lights, colors etc.... Nothing fancy but it works and I avoided drilling any new holes.

I put one on too. You can buy them all over but Amazon is a good place to start. They are 12 volt but can be adapted to 120. They just glue on with adhesive backing.

Also you might want to get a dimmer. They can get really bright.

Also they make multi colors and you can buy a controller that changes the color. I might add a second colored one just for fun.

I drilled a hole and wired into a separate switch so I can use a dimmer. They don't use any power so tap into anything really.

You can tap into the porch light but I wanted to keep the porch light separate. (I am afraid of the dark so I like to keep that on):p So I drilled a hold behind the light itself and installed the light over the hole so it cannot be seen. Looks clean.

I put mine on the exterior of the RV. Was thinking of adding a second one on the back of the awning roller but they are so bright it is not necessary.

I deal with the Lighthose in W. Sac,ca

For commercial speciality vehicular lighting needs
Police, fire, ambulance racks to commercial trucking
They have a excellent LED selection to fit any need and application

Unless you have a badass rig that has a large 120v system in it (wiring throughout off an inverter), I'd HIGHLY recommend sticking with a 12v system. The 12v is always hot (don't require an inverter, hook-up, or generator running) and is usually what all the lighting circuits are so easy to grab a circuit wherever you run the wire.

We've been looking at a lot of RV's lately. Seems the manufacturers are incorporating them into the awnings and front caps for effect. Some are pretty bad ass. Don't know where you get it done but I'd start with some of the better RV repair places.

most of these systems have a 120v plug transformer to 12v dc. you just do away with the ac transformer.

Thanks for the pics guys 👍🏻 lots of good ideas. My trailer is plug in only, so I guess I'm on 120v only then. I have the porch light and switches right there inside. I'll have to figure out how to tap that to connect.
