Friend pulling in lost all control of his ford transmission when trying to back into his spot. Sounds like the dealer is willing to pay for a mechanic, now we’re just looking for an RV mechanic in Havasu. If you have any leads or advice please give us a call. (909) 217-5658

I'm nowhere near, otherwise I'd pop by and throw the scanner on it. If the dash didn't light up, and it just kind of shut off, I'd just check the fuses, and any wiring around the bulkhead...left foot area. Make sure the park break isn't on, and the light off, as that does weird stuff sometimes. If the dash is lit up, may be an issue, or may be just have gone into overtemp. A loose connection at the transmission will cause an issue as well, but usually it will show symptoms beforehand.

There is a pretty well equipped boat repair shop at the Springs, I'd try those guys first.

I have never personally used this shop, but they’ve been in town for many years and work on heavy duty RVs. Might be worth a try. Good luck.

Gone are the days of just checking the linkage.

Don’t know if this would work or not, but I would give it a shot. After checking fuses. Try disconnecting chassis battery for 5 minutes and then reconnect.

Curious what ends up being the issue. Let’s us know when it gets resolved. That rig looks pretty new.

If it's new enough to be fly-by-wire (no not that damn ticket machine🤣🤣) check under the dash for an unplugged harness, maybe his foot or the pedal got the harness while hitting the brakes and unplugged it. It my not be completely disconnected either, just enough that there is no connection but still looks connected.

I’d give First Class RV a call. They do mobile repairs, if they can’t do it they can likely give you a referral

So we got it moved. The rear brakes (or something in the rear end) were locked up. We’re all scratching our heads on this one.
I don't know if the late models have an electric over hydraulic parking brake. Those would sometimes bleed down, and start to drag. Occasionally a failure could lead to parking brake full engagement at speed.

Glad it was able to get situated though.

If my memory serves me right, Ford always used the electric over hydraulic park brake. Except for the first year or two when it was simple manual. Cable operated. That would have been early 90's. F53 chassis.

Early years GM used the strictly hydraulic park brake in the P30/32. Spring operated to pull the cable. PS pump applied the pressure to compress and release the spring. Memory fails me when they switched to electric over hydraulic. Wanna say 95-96 GM switched to elect-hyd.


It's been a long time (30+ years) since I had to deal with park brake, on the back of the trans, on MH chassis. Not much difference between a MH chassis and a MD truck chassis.

My 96 6500 has an electric hydraulic pump that overcomes a coil spring "that can kill you" and releases the parking brake. Mine has what looks like an air brake knob, but is a switch. Some of the older UPS and FedEx P30 chassis ran a switch on the column, so it acted like the Allison had "Park". I have no clue though on something as modern as the coach here.
