Anyone have any campgrounds they can recommend for RV camping around the July 4th holiday? It would be for 2 families of 4 with RV's 34-40" long. We have long camped at either South Carlsbad State beach or San Elijo State Beach, but this year we got shut out and are looking for other options.

We would prefer to stay near water (Ocean, River, lake, etc..), but that is not absolutely necessary. The kids are all 3-5 yrs old so anything that works for younger families would be best.

We would prefer to stay within a 5 hr drive of Northern San Diego County, but would venture further if the place was worth it. We already have river trips planned (Parker) so we were looking for a different destination than that area. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Try Vail Lake in Temecula. Always have had a really good time there. Altho have never stayed during the summer months.

I know you said you have river trips planned, but have you ever tried the campgrounds at the Avi Casino/Resort in Laughlin? Lots of stuff for the kids and they have a great fireworks show for the 4th. You get access to the hotel pool, beach area and I believe use of the launch ramp.

Long Beach Yes Long Beach

Their is a campground real close to downtown that is pretty nice. You can walk to the Aquarium of the Pacific. The Catalina boats are right there if you want to go over on a day trip. The campground is clean, and has a nice pool. I think the name of the campground is Golden Shores Campground. It books up early. Oh yes you can watch the Fireworks off the Queen Mary.

Both are on the beach

Rincon is great but is first come, first serve

Go to Silver Strand State beach just south of Coronado in San Diego. It is awesome.

Anywhere in the Eastern Sierras

Yes also forgot to mention that anywhere up by Mammoth is awesome. Spent a week up there for the 4th a few years ago and the weather was awesome. Fireworks work pretty grim in Mammoth but the show by Convict Lake was good.

There is the Mammoth Mountain RV park that has full hook ups. If you are looking for something more woodsy check out New Shady Rest or Pine Glen- no hook ups at either place. There is also a ton of remote camping by Glass Creak (first come first serve). Also some cool places in the June Loop.

All of this Eastern Sierra talk has me thinking about camping up there during summer time, can't wait to go!

Anywhere in Rock Creek is great too. No hookups but we go in the trailer to sleep only really. Full up with water at the campground and gent for electric if needed but I never had to run last time. Creek or lake by each campground. Unbelievable fishing. Spotted a couple deer last year while trailing along the creek fishing.

San Luis Obispo County Parks.... there is a link to the RV park in Oceano, Full hook ups, only a few handle larger than 35', clean campground on the inner lagoon walk to restaurants, access to the beach and dunes is literally about 2 blocks away and Downtown Pismo Beach is just 2 miles down the road all kinds of stuff for the kids to do, ATV/ Dune buggy rentals all right there and in the summer time weather is perfect.... If you havent reserved something by now you are most likely out of luck.i am going to mammoth july 20th for a week nad had to reserve a month and a half ago it filled up a couple days later.I would guess that all places suggested will be booked up and if its first come better be there 2 weeks before to get a spot.

I know some nice spots above kern river that are free and dry camp but no way a 35ft moho will get into it.
