I've been getting phone calls and PM's and text messages for the last couple days about DCB.. Let me start by saying the vast majority of them are unfounded, and untrue.. People take a thread of something and spin it into a yard of bullshit..

To start, DCB did not file BK. DCB is not going out of biz.. DCB hasn't filed anything.

I talked to Tony C yesterday and this AM just for a minute to kind of find out what's going on. Yes they pulled about half the employees and went down to a skeleton crew. Dave H. has some health problem, but he's not telling anyone (not even the employees) what it is.. Ultimately if you've met Dave, you have to know he's going a million miles an hour and 100 different directions at any given time. The stress is too much, and he has to slow his roll a bit. That's basically it in a nutshell no more no less.

The company is for sale, and I don't have a hard number, but from what I've heard it's around 2 Mill. They currently have 4+ boats on order with another 3 - 4 committed to winter builds.. Ranging from 31's with 700's to 1350 single 29's and Twin 1350 M series..

From what I understand there is already 3 - 4 interested buyers in the company and the talks have already began with a few potential buyers. I would expect even if it sells that Dave H. will still be heavily involved, as well all the main crew that makes the boats what they always have been, the best of the best.

I will speculate that in the future no matter what happens, you will probably see Tony C. play a more heavy role in the front of DCB, and other guys making making a move up in position in the back to continue the legacy that Dave H started from scratch and built. They will continue to be one of the leading if not the leading boat mfg on the west coast that all others follow. I wish Dave H. the best and I hope that he is able to continue to raise the bar each year with his creations.

Get well soon Dave, we are all pulling for you.

Wow. Thanks for setting the record straight. DCB employees and owners are one big family. Whatever it is that Dave is dealing with I am sure he will continue to come out on top.

2 mil seems pretty cheap for a company of that caliber.

Sure hope the guy's OK. Without our health we're nothing. Selling the company means more than "he's taking a break" or "he needs to slow down" - he built that business and company's reputation. Seems to be a shame for him to leave it so it must be serious.

2 mil seems pretty cheap for a company of that caliber.

Exactly what I was thinking when I read Dave's post

Crazy price, we just had a local lowbed co. with. 10 rigs bought out for 4.3mil. and that was just for auction

Sounds like a good venture

That's what I was thinking. You could make all your money back with just building a few boats[/QUOTE]

It'll take way more than a few boats to get your money back after you pay your overhead. I think Dave may see the writing on the wall. This industry will be tough, for more many years to come. With the flood of used boats and tight credit, new builds will be scarce.

I can't imagine Dcb selling for 2 mil. This is all news to me. Im in there about once a month. Last time it was pretty empty. They had just delivered three boats the day before. Shocking if half of that is true.

This does nothing to dispel the rumor that DCB is working on a gear case with the prop on the front.

Get well soon, Dave. :)

This is one group of guys that has improved on their boats every year. I looked at the wide body 35 very closely and it looked like a show car inside and out. The workmanship was a pure 10! The trailer the boat was sitting on was a piece of art. I hope it all works out for Dave and his team. $2M sounds like a steal for a company with such a strong reputation.

It's got to be killing Dave to have to sell, but when it come to your health, you never know but it sounds like stress he might go on vacation for a month and come back better then ever...................

First, all the best to Dave and his employees. As for the $2 mil, who knows, maybe that's a net number after debt is paid. In all honesty what does each boat net after the true build cost? I mean ALL overhead, not just boat materials.

Good luck to them and the potential new owner.

OK, here's the deal:

RDP has 6,646 members. If each one of us ponies up $301.00 we'll come up with $2,000,446 enough to buy DCB and buy a lot of beer.

And if we get the lurkers to chip in...let's say that's a total of 10,000 peeps. Each person's investment is only $200!

We're all company investors/owners and, as a bonus, we each can get a $1,000 discount off of a DCB of our choice when we buy one :D

Consider the side benefits: No more arguing about which boat or boat company is the best :champagne:

I wish Dave and his family all the best. His boats are impeccable and continue to redefine perfection. He's one of the boat builders and business men I've admired over the years and has an incredible business acumen. For those who have been to his shop you know what I'm talking about. He's pumping out $500-$800 boats from what looks like a little industrial strip center. He's not one of the builders that grew and over expanded before things went to hell. Even in a down economy he's pumping out the "M" boats like there is no tomorrow.

Best wishes to Dave, his family and the team that puts these creations together.

I hope the new owners treat the customers the way dave does, the guy with a 24 gets treated the same as the guys with m31 and m35s

Unbelivable. I have seen a number of the DCB-Eliminators that Dave built back in the day and now seeing the M Series DCB has come a long way. I hope Dave get's back on his feet and I hope the company survives.

So RD was it you that deleted my thread on DCB? Just want to know....

Was it you that was implying that people had laid down deposits for boats and weren't going to get the boats or deposits back? Lol.. (what was that all about?). Boats are still in production and they have a laundry list of orders.

I didn't delete your thread btw.. I moved it and started one with the actual facts of what is happening. I don't think it's fairs to DCB or Dave H. To try and respond to a thread 4 pages later after people have already speculated everything under the sun. The truth of it needed to be on page one in the first post.. That's why I moved it..

I admire guys like Dave Hemmingson. He is an entrepreneur in every sense of the word. He put his life's blood into creating a truly unique company that puts out a quality product that gets people talking. :thumbsup That sort of thing is not easy to do. This country would be a lot better place with more guys like him. (allowed to do what they do of course ;))

I wish the guy well and hope he gets better and continues to do what he does best. :thumbsup

I know we all look forward to seeing the lastest and greatest creations from DCB every year. (even if we can't afford them :p )

I wish nothing better but the best for Dave and his Company.....

I would walk away from just about everything in my life if it meant it was for the betterment of my health or my family.

Hopefully he can stay on as a consultant and perhaps go over the final rigging before the boats are delivered. Something tells me that he is very very hands on with every single boat that leaves and won't settle for anything less than perfection.(Hence the reason why the company is so successfull.)

Honestly he almost single handed improved the entire west coast boating image pushing the envelope and forcing other companies to follow suit.

His boats are more art than a profit margain....

 WTF? Lucky!! Where did you get those? First the cool hitch cover and now merchandise....I like it. I need to bulk up on this stuff LOL. Hopefully this year at the regatta they'll have some stuff for sale. They didn't bring anything last time and I was bummed.
Bunkrepair is right about customer service, My 24 Extreme is my first boat and I have been impressed with everything about it. The family of DCB owners is amazing and everyone was super nice and welcoming this last september at my first time at Havasu and my first regatta :party2: . I got to talk to Dave at the dinner which for me was like talking to one of your favorite movie stars haha. I told Dave I was totally stoked on my boat and that when/if it came time to upgrade I would certainly be talking to him. Yeah, he made me feel like I had just bought a 400K boat. I wish him the best and hope his health problems get better. He is an innovator for sure, no one can replace Dave H. Thanks RD for keeping us all in the loop.

it would take along time to earn that 2 mil back.

even if you were to net 10k a boat after all is said and done, it would take 200 boats to earn that back.

I really doubt if the net profit is anywhere close 10k.

I disagree. If you are building a 500k boat there is more than 10k in it. I would guess around 50k.

10k per build? That wouldn't be worth the hassle of being in business. I would think that Dave is operating on a 10-15% profit margin. He's building 35-40 boats per year in this economy. Just assumptions on my part. I wish him the best. A true leader in the boating industry. Thanks RD for getting this out here the right way.

Health issues and all, Dave will keep the quality no matter if he owns it or the new owners will demand it. The company is Dave and that may hurt the selling price if he wasn't going to be around.

I heard from a reliable source(a competitor ) that he makes 100k ish per boat(20%).
