People just can’t comprehend that a 100 year storm rolled through (2011 cold was not nearly as bad per people who lived through it) and the electric grid wasn’t setup for this extreme temps. Neither were pipes in houses nor was there any real assets to clear roads. You can spend billions to prepare for a 100 year storm, but then you’d have billions to spend on maintenance and upgrades for equipment sitting doing nothing for 99.9 years. Though I think some things should have been addressed in various systems.

Regardless of one's opinion or feelings.. I challenge you to find one major utility in the USA that doesn't have more renewables it it generation mix going forward. That's the fact and it didn't change one bit under the past 4 years under Republicans and this event won't change it either. The fact is that renewables are in the mix going forward at greater percentages... They are just "goals" so its not that the projections will come to reality, but the momentum is set.

BTW ... focusing on generation is short sighted, you can almost give away the power because the business/profits/technology advancements are in transmission and distribution and going forward that will even be more prevalent in the business model.

During rhe Enron debacle in early 2000s my company curtailed operations paid us all to come to work or do community service projects and made serious bank selling the power to California. Lol best job ever, we overhauled updated and eventually ran out of projects in the couple years it lasted.

Spoken by someone who is obviously not in the solar industry (hint...I am). Much of texas it DOES NOT pan out for 3 reasons. 1. Buyback/Net Metering is either 1 cent or non-existent. The areas that have good net metering have a lot of solar. 2. HAIL...we do a lot of insurance claims. 3. Power is too cheap in many areas to make it have a reasonable ROI... a 20 year ROI is not reasonable...I like 8 years or less. 10, maybe 12 if you have garbage credit and we are having to pay finance fees for a lender. Under $0.115 per kWh it gets hard to make worth it.

It has nothing to do whether it can "heat a pool" (btw you would not use PV for that...you would use solar water collectors..but im sure you know that right) etc...it has to do with cost vs benefit. We are a fossil fuel state..thats our best resource..and what we should be using...regardless of what your child molester king in the whitehouse tells you.

You eluded in an earlier post that we need to shutdown natural gas power plants (to be fair you included coal in that), basically stating that natural gas is bad. When I asked you what is wrong with natural gas you realized you fucked up and eluded the actual question.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with natural gas, as a matter of fact both the democrat and the Republican parties embrace it, so much so that they are converting their entire city fleets to CNG (Clean Natural Gas, incase you didn't know). One of the most liberal cities in the nation has the largest CNG fleet in the nation, that would be Los Angeles City and they have added an incredible amount to that fleet in the last 12 months. The state of California is doing the same with their fleet including school districts.

Now before you say "I only meant the coal power plants" no you didn't or you would have corrected yourself right away. Natural gas power plants should be the primary source of power generation since it's more consistent.

Seeing that we went five days without power this last week and have friends staying with us because they are still dark means I am living through this struggle.

It took 4 hours of no furnace and freezing temps to prompt the following response:

(Immediate)

Water shut off to hose bibs.
Woodstove lit and heating one side of the house.
Gas fireplace heating the other side.

(Within 8 hours)

Generator purchased
Isolation panel roughed in

I didn’t sit on my ass and blame windmills for the situation.

Further

The boat was winterized months ago including 50 gallons of non-ethanol fuel... This is important because all the gas stations around were shut down. Many of the people around with generators ran out of fuel day two. We did not.

For the record, George W. has an estate in Preston Hollow, though he doesn’t live there full time as I understand it.
