He went full security this morning.
And I think it’s time we invest in security cams.

I’m not really sure what set him off, but he had a mohawk from the end of his nub to the tip of his nose.

My youngest had just jumped in her car and left for class, I was upstairs running water for the oldest to bath.
Some of you will recall the oldest had some mental disability, she needs a hand with some tasks.

While upstairs Rocky was up and down, he’s a Velcro dog but is in most ways a stereotypical “modern” Doberman.
Mostly a lab trapped in a Dobermans body. I’ve never introduced him to a human he didn’t like. They exist to throw the ball for him, right?
He doesn’t even get up off his bed when my mom comes on Tuesday afternoons, lol.

Well.
I’m not sure what or who came too close to our front door.
But that wasn’t the bark of a cat or stray dog outside.

It was more the “let me out to do my job” type bark.

I looked from the top of the stairs and he was holding a stance, looking at the front door and the side window.

I’ve heard him bark about a squirrel out back, a cat or a possum along the fence too,a raccoon in the tree, a stray Chihuahua that managed to get into our back yard for crying out loud, lol.
This was not that bark.
I opened the front door to look outside, he jutted his head out next to my left hip and let out a low rumble of a growl that must have last 20 seconds.

Who’s running security cams? :D
What are you running?
Pros?
Cons?

I have had great luck with the Reolink wifi/wireless Argus 2 cameras. I have five of them between two homes.

Cash is pretty much the same way as Rocky mellow natural eared Doberman, he loves everyone. The fight is in him however...he has to lay on a certain dog bed so he can see the monitor for the cameras, he watches them nonstop. One time I let a buddy crash in the spare room and Cash was not used to that, so he launched out of my room and pinned him in a corner, didn't bite or anything but wouldn't let him move until I intervened. Needless to say when he starts barking I really pay attention.

I do have a connection on some older cameras and dvrs, all new stuff just not as modern as the new stuff.

Who's a good boy!!!

I would ad another Rocky or a German to your pack. Forget the cameras.
Lol.
In a perfect world it would be a multi pack!
I would like some cams just to see.
Like I said this was an unusual tone and focus.
It has me concerned.
There is a dirt bag neighbor up the street and across.

Another Doberman, or perhaps a Rottie.
And cams...

You should see the dogs my wife's breeder produces...she was just in the Nationals with some of her dogs...they all got a ribbon of some sort.

Anyway if your interested I have a line on cameras but it would be self install

I would DEFINITELY pay attention to him. They hear/know something ain't right long before us humans. If my dog did that, i'd have a round chambered before i even went to look - best friends don't lie. When i took my CCW class, the instructor said when the hair goes up, that's god talking to you - DO SOMETHING, but definitely don't ignore it!!!!!

I went with Lorex wired cameras at our place only because of the power over ethernet capabilities. Wireless is slick but I'm old fashioned. :D They offer wireless too, but not what I was looking for.

We have the Blink cameras. Motion and sound detectors. Wireless. We have 5 of them. Im sure Joy didnt pay to terribly much $. They work fine for about 120' from there Booster deal. Night vision, you can adjust the senstivity and length of time they record. They send the clips right to your phone.

I'm sure if it was a low life snooping around he will move on knowing some (big)loud ass dog was waiting for him inside.

My Dobe is the same way, super friendly but every now and then she gets the hair stand up on her back moment. My 10 y.o. daughter was carving a pumpkin tonight and when she stuck her hand in the pumpkin she started growling at it lol. Shes only a year and weighing in at 72 lbs. I have noticed she is getting more and more protective. I have a 6 HD camera LTS system only because my company is a dealer, and 6 terabyte of storage

I have seen pictures of that dog. My buddy has one too.

I think you need two cameras.

One to to catch the scared look on the perps face and another to see them shit their pants when they meet that dog after they break into yore house. :D;)

I used wired Swann cameras. But I don’t have a Rocky.

But if you only need one or two get a wireless so you can place them wherever and get the right perspective. Arlo or Nest for wireless.

Just put one up high and enjoy watching any intruder run away

I prefer the Nest cameras. We have them at our hone and at our river pad. Good user interface on the app and good quality video.

We have Lorex on the perimeter of the house. I have 8 cameras on the system and they are hardwired. I got everything at Sams or Costco. It records 2 weeks on the system. The issue with the system is that it is quirky for retrieval of the data. I found out the day that our house was broken into.

We also a security system on the windows and doors of the house. It is a Honeywell system that has had a few false alarms but we felt with it.

After the break in I said screw it and that we are introducing another layer to the home protection. We went with Arlo and place at the front porch and inside the house. This is the best system when you have connectivity. You can view all cameras on the internet and alerts are sent each time there is motion.

All the systems are worth it for what they are.
Lorex - Recording 24-7
Security - Police will be called if the alarm is triggered by anyone the enters the perimeter
Arlo - Texts of issues and the ability to view what is going on in real time.

I hope that this helps you. Personally security provides price of mind for you and the family.

Just before we left Ca for good, had a scare. We had no dogs, but lived in the nicest area we couldn't really afford... I had just left to run to the shop, just about dinner time. I roll maybe three blocks away, and my wife calls me. She said two pretty big guys in their 20's came to the door, asking about some gym equipment for sale on craigslist. They were pushy, and out of place. They went back to their car, and were standing by it as my wife watched through the window. They hopped in the car as I pitched the corner in the same crew cab diesel they saw me leave in.

I could have cared less if they robbed me...I don't have much. My wife was there with my three kids, oldest was 9 at the time. That bothered me.
Whatever you do, set it up with few blindspots, and a good way for you or your family to monitor from safer locations...a monitor and not just the phone.

If you have privacy concerns, use a system that records locally.
Cloud-based systems are ripe for hackers...or, in some cases, even employees from companies like Amazon.

That is a big concern with many of the cloud based systems...not all though. Due to Honeywell being a true security company they have the most advanced security protocols in place against hacking. now when you are looking Arlo, Ring, Nest, etc you are signing away your "privacy" by accepting the EULA
