Aside from getting pulled over in the wrong state with it available to you in condition one, are you ever worried about having to use it in the wrong state to defend yourself or somebody else?

I go az to ca twice a month and have to remember to lock in case before I leave the country.

Usually do when I fuel up unload it and lock it.

One thing to note. In Utah, a loaded gun is defined as one that has a round in the chamber. You can carry an "unloaded" gun. You cannot carry a "loaded" firearm unless you have a CCW. This goes for your auto also. It cannot have a round in the chamber in your vehicle unless you have a CCW reciprocity agreement with Utah.

We traveled from Utah to North Carolina. The only state I was nervous about was the bottom of Illinois that we had to cross. I believe all I had to do was put it in my safe in the truck. I have a small one that I use quite often. Make sure you have somewhere secure to store it in your vehicle in case it gets broken into with out-of-state plates. Take it into your hotel with you, if you're going that route. I wouldn't leave it in your auto overnight.

If you're taking an RV, different laws apply because it is your domicile.

Utah will issue a CCW to non-residents if they have a CCW in their home state, provided that state’s permit requirements satisfy them. Utah’s permit is accepted in quite a few states if you’re visiting, but not California, Oregon or Washington. Utah does accept Washington’s permits as sufficient to be awarded an Utah permit, but I don’t recall with regard to the other two.

I learned this in a class, and did get my Utah permit. I’ve never used it though. 🫤

EDIT: To get the Utah permit, you must also take an approved class, and provide a certificate with your CCW application.

Minding your own business is not a solid strategy for circumventing State firearm laws.

Really the only place you have to worry about in IL is Cook county (Chicago), nearly all of the rest have pretty conservative sheriff's/LEO. Simple memory aid is stay south of I-80 and travel like you please.

Are you in a car / truck or a motorhome?

if your in a red state just have a lock able container stow accordingly
car / truck always needs to be locked away while in the car / truck

How I understand things in a motor home

while in motion it’s a vehicle
while stopped it becomes a residence

Years ago I was towing my boat across the desert in the summer, and my truck at the time went into limp mode. I couldn't drive more than 5 MPH. Fortunately, this happened close to a rest area so I pulled in and parked my truck and boat next to a bunch of truckers. There were a couple of sketchy people who took notice of the boat and wanted to come talk to me while I was trying to figure out what was wrong with the truck. I had my pregnant wife plus our 1.5 yr old inside my truck. Nothing happened, but all it would have taken was for the wrong person to be there for me to end up in a bad situation.

Ever since that incident, I carry while traveling. It's not paranoia, it's realizing that unplanned things happen and there are some bad people out there.

If you own weapons in Arizona, CCW is not a problem, if you travel, you should have one.

I don’t travel with a round in the chamber ready to go. Thats for people that train regularly (daily). I’ve heard of too many police officer discharge their weapons “accidentally”. Too many kids pick up that loaded firearm and shooting their brother or sister. I’m not “trigger happy”

My defense plan is to stay in the car, and out run them, out drive them. Once it become physical contact, their fuck, because while I’m driving away, I’m putting one in the chamber.

Never had a problem with it discharging accidentally, never had a reason to load one in the chamber. Praying it will always be that way.

I practice shooting once or twice a year, before I clean the guns.

Door panel is the worse place.. Was getting fuel and had my door partially open. Big guy comes up opens the door more and gets in my face asking for money. Did not see it coming. He could've just easily grabbed my wallet. If I had a gun in the door panel he probably would have held me up with my own gun. I didnt have a gun with me and he didnt get any money.

It’s my belief that some of you are so proud of your guns (and booze) that you can’t go a month without creating thread about them.

I carry. I don't carry with one in the chamber. Keep it in my backpack or center console. I have a CCW in CA and AZ which gives me reciprocity in any state that I would be driving in.
My wife and kids know where it is and know not to touch it unless there is a threat and for some reason I can't get to it (highly unlikely).

This is my understanding for Ca at least and how I have traveled for years from Az, ammo locked with the gun unloaded. My only concern ever is whether what I have in my travel safe locked in the back of my truck is legal on any given day depend on the Supreme Court . I figure at the very worst since it is a locked safe some sort of a search warrant would be required to have me open it, I am not a lawyer though so who knows.

IMO you're approaching this the wrong way, and that's what's creating some of this unproductive back and forth. If you don't feel the need to carry a firearm everyday, that's excellent. I'm a big believer in people making their own decisions about how they choose to go about their day to day life. Why do you feel the need to insult those of us that do carry a firearm everyday by calling us paranoid?

I don't see the @FROGMAN524 starting thread to be braggadocious, was an honest question from someone about a topic that they felt as though others in the community could provide insight on. Similarly, there's currently a thread about the different items that people carry in their boat in the event of an emergency. I'm guessing you might not carry some/most/any of the items in there that people are talking about, would it be productive for you to go in that thread and call those people paranoid just because they do things differently than you?

CA I roll with a G17 & a 870 Tactical kitted up. With more ammo than I want to admit in public.

In free states I have all of the above with a AR in 556 for two legged animals and 308 for 4 legged animals. Suppressors of course.

Likely have a G20 for nature hikes. Sometimes I’ll substitute the 556 AR for a 9mm sub gun.
