In too many ways, this heinous act seems to reflect our times. Nothing will bring back this husband, father and saver of many lives. But, I can only hope this pos perp gets what he deserves. Expect Soros or another lib may post his bail. But Damn! This blatant, murderous act needs to end justifiably.

I give credit to the driver for using a knife. Obviously this was a fight, and the bicyclist lost.

😜
^Could you explain wtf you talking about here.^ If trying to lighten up a tragedy fine. Otherwise WTF. Dr. Mammone was in a fight with nobody.
Also, what is this bullshit every description of this killer mentions he some sort of accountant & drives a Lexus. This guy is a cold blooded killer and H&R Block clerk.
I would be interested in SHINTOOO definition of “ tax preparer vs Certified Public Accountant” ?

Cut and Paste Statement from the OC District Attorney's Office

Long Beach Man Charged with Murder for Hitting Bicyclist, Stabbing Him to Death in Dana Point

There is no known connection between the defendant and the victim.

Full Press Release: https://bit.ly/3HENIYW

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A 39-year-old Long Beach man has been charged with murder for hitting a cyclist in Dana Point Wednesday afternoon and then stabbing him to death while bystanders tried to help the injured man. There is no known prior relationship between the victim and his accused killer.

Vanroy Evan Smith. 39, of Long Beach, has been charged with one felony count of murder and one felony enhancement of the personal use of a knife. He faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life plus one year if convicted on all charges.

He pleaded not guilty today in CJ1. Smith is currently being held at the Orange County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail and is scheduled to be back in court on February 14, 2023 for a pretrial hearing.

On Wednesday, February 1, 2023, Dr. Michael Mammone, 58, was riding his bicycle northbound on Pacific Coast Highway near the intersection of Crown Valley Parkway in Dana Point at approximately 3 p.m. when he was rammed by the driver of a white Lexus, later identified as Vanroy Evan Smith.

While Mammone was laying injured in the street, Smith is accused of using a knife to repeatedly stab Mammone. Smith was detained by bystanders who rushed to help the injured cyclist.

Mammone was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Smith was arrested by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

“An innocent man is dead because he took a bike ride to enjoy a beautiful California day along the beach and he was hit with a car and stabbed to death by someone he apparently never met,” said Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer. “The murder of a complete stranger in broad daylight for what appears to be absolutely no reason is the stuff of nightmares. This unspeakable act of violence will forever haunt those who were forced to witness it and it will forever haunt all of those who loved Dr. Mammone.”

Senior Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Walker of the Homicide Unit is prosecuting this case.

Some of the early comments are why you need to wait until the facts roll in.

It would be extremely rare for someone to plead guilty at arraignment. Its not a fact finding hearing.
I know . . . but if you're scum enough to murder someone, especially in that manner . . . fucking own it.
Like that prison inmate a few years back who killed his pedo cell mate, "Yeah, I killed him". . . then went on to explain how / why.

I'm just venting.

Seems that what we have come to,”Venting”. One disaster after another. For you younger folks you have no idea how phucked up our society has become compared to just 50 years ago. Plus lack of obvious solutions that have always been available.
This so called tax clerk,Lexus driver execution should have been televised this morning. Instead he will be defended for years and walk in 25 years.

I’m not sure either. Maybe because his screen name is OJ?

You are wrong. The collision did not cause the fatal injuries. Period.
That doesn't mean he wouldn't have succumbed to the trauma if he hadn't been attacked. When one's body dishes out a windshield from a collision and then flies thirty or forty feet before impacting pavement, the odds are it's not survivable.

Well,he sure as hell was not going to survive unconscious & chopped up in a one sided fight with a tax clerk / Lexus driver wielding a machete.
Every possible description of Smith includes “Tax Preparer driving a Lexus”.

Looks like he probably suffered fatal injuries from the collision.
When I saw the picture of the windshield I immediately thought he stabbed a dead man, it takes an incredible amount of force to cave one like that.

A person has to get a certain number of credits in college, work under a CPA that signs off on their hours, and passes multiple tests in specifc areas of accountancy before they become a CPA. They also have continuing education requirements, or CPE, to remain current on changes. There are two primary paths, tax, like Shintoo or Audit, like I did. After that you either stick at a firm or go corporate, again, like me.

I don’t even know if there are standardized tests for a tax preparer but Shintoo is closer to that world.
