I went up to Pirates for the first time this past weekend.
I had never really bothered to go up river but I had a “Forest Gump” day where I kept figuring “if I went this far, may as well keep going”
I was on edge because I didn’t know what the shallow spots were so I kept following people when possible.
Looks like, for the most part, the water is plenty deep for large performance boats like my Nordic Heat.
There is one spot a few miles north of the gorge that really caught me off guard. But after slowing down and looking overboard, it looks like it was still at least 4 or 5 feet deep and there’s deeper water on the California side.
For future reference, are there any specific flow metrics for Davis Dam that I should be looking for before it gets sketchy for my boat?
Are there better times of day?
I grew up on the lower river where it is a constant game of dodgeball with rock bars and sandbars and the level varies wildly depending on time of day.
