Totally sucks, I was really pulling for him. Toby Keith was one of those entertainers the wrote or co-wrote his own music which is pretty rare. I remember reading an article about him on the song "You should kiss me like this", he said it was his defining moment and the best he's ever done and didn't know if he could ever top it. Every time I hear that song I think about that.. He was a really successful guy worth around 400 million, a patriot, nice guy that worked his ass off.. Rest in Peace Legend.

The first concert I ever attended was Toby Keith. It was in Las Vegas in 1994. He was performing on Fremont street for a rodeo. My mom was in his fan club and we got backstage passes. I was being a typical 13 year old kid and goofing around with the camera. He actually yelled at me. To this day my mom still talks about that happening and will say, “C’mon DJ!” because that was one of the things he yelled at me.

My parents marriage was falling apart at the time and my mom went on to become a Toby Keith groupy. Her and her friend followed Toby all over the country. Her friend ended up getting knocked up by one of Toby’s roadies and has a son that was fathered by a Toby Keith roady.

I’ve personally seen him in concert several times since seeing him the first time in 94. The last time I saw him was in 2018 when he played at Cheyenne Frontier Days. I never in a million years would have imagined that would be the last time I’d see him perform live.

RIP Toby.

Saw him in Laughlin around 2016 with @BingerFang after racing a National Hare and Hound race during the day. That was the perfect venue as far as fan base goes, Kingman and Laughlin’s finest, lots of leather and Harley patches. I ended up coughing up about half of my beer on one sip on the lady in front of me with my lungs just wrecked from the desert race. She understandably gave me a piece of her mind. He put on a great show.

RIP Toby, I saw him so many times. First time was at Western Connection in San Dimas, then Midnight Rodeo and numerous times at the Crazy Horse and many more. So sad thought he had the cancer beat as well. FuckCancer
