Damn, that sux. Dude was a legend in so many movies and didn’t appear to be in good health for a few years. He was great playing Jim Morrison in “The Doors” and obviously Top Gun. He was great as Doc Holliday in Tombstone.

Way too young

When his cancer was discovered he went Steve Jobs snake oil treatment.

Woke up at the last minute what a quack remedy it was and at the least was able to prolong his life a few more years with chemo.

One of Val’s most unique movies was Salton City. If you’ve never watched it you might give it a try on YouTube or other platforms. It’s a bizarre flick but I liked it.

“After the murder of his beloved wife, a man (Val Kilmer) in search of redemption is set adrift in a world where nothing is as it seems. On his journey, he befriends slacker Jimmy The Finn (Peter Sarsgaard), becomes involved in rescuing his neighbor Colette (Deborah Kara Unger) from her own demons, and gets entangled in a web of deceit full of unexpected twists and turns.”

This man was an actor in the finest sense of the word...thinking back on all the films he made listed here, and he seemed to inhabit the character he played, not just wore the clothes. I truly think he was robbed not getting the Oscar for Doc in Tombstone, he defined that role.

Read an article about him and Kurt Russel that after Tombstone wrapped they exchanged gifts. Kurt bought Val a plot in Boot Hill Cemetery and Val bought Kurt an acre overlooking Boot Hill.

I remember an interview with someone from the cast of Tombstone, can't remember who, this person was asked how it was to meet Val and he said he didn't know because Val was Doc Holiday all the time they were on set and off.

I didn't actually know Kilmer wasn't really acting in Top Gun Maverick when it came to his voice or him typing the conversations he was having.

Not sure if it was really that bad and they played it up or that was done so he could be in it.

Either way that part in that movie was a great way to wrap up his character.

I think his voice was real in Top Gun Maverick. In his documentary movie he made called VAL, he can barely talk. I had read that they used a combination of voice clips from previously recorded movies and interviews, combined with his Son's voice to artificially create his voice for narrating the movie.

It is worth a watch if you haven't seen it. He started video recording almost his whole life starting at a young age.
