I listened to Sundown and The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald after I had heard the news.

They sounded as good as ever, and maybe I was listening just a little bit better, but they sound as good or better than they ever did.

Sorry I never took the time to see him play; my sister did within the last decade and she really enjoyed it. It was our parents music but we always enjoyed it.

I enjoyed watching the documentary on him last year as well. Surprised that his ex-wife was involved with the death of John Belushi.

That was a great documentary, although I like his later hits better it was cool seeing vids of him playing the coffee houses in the early days.

That Ex of his was the perfect example of banging crazy but don't ever marry it.

He was a modern day poet who could sing as he told his stories.
I cranked up the Marantz and found the vinyl and listened to his work last night.
It is timeless. I think that is the right word...timeless.
I passed up a chance to see him live in Reno, I dunno...many years ago and kick myself in the ass for not going.
Another one of those times when I chose work over something I wanted to do.
The world is only allotted a finite number of artists like this guy. If you have the chance to see one perform live...do it.

All those years as a kid listening to that song, I never knew that it meant to kill someone.

One hell of a song writer, and had an amazing voice to boot. I’ve always enjoyed his music. RIP.

Funny story my buddy just sent me.
"About 15 years ago, I had a mtg in minneapolis and one night, I was out walking around the city.
I came across this old theater that had concerts & on that night, Gordon Lightfoot was playing. It was 7:00 pm & the show started at 8:00.
I walked up to the door & asked if there were tickets left. The door guy said, "A few..."
"How much?"
"$86"
"It's Gordon Lightfoot! No Thanks."
I walked around the corner & had a beer. At 7:30, I walked by the theater again and the door guy saw me and said, "Show starts soon, $50!"
I smiled & said, "It's Gordon Lightfoot, $50...no thanks!"
At 8:05, I walked by one more time & the door guy said, "Hey You, give me $20 and get your ass in there, it's Gordon Lightfoot!!!"
I did & I walked into the theater. It was the old style seats & there were ushers. They made me wait for the song to end & then the usher walked me down and down and down...
I was in the second row, center stage, 10 feet from Gordon Lightfoot! It was a great show. I think the audience's median age was 67...but he was really good & sounded just like he did on the radio.
A couple next to me had old GLF records with them for him to sign. They were SUPER fans.
They asked me, "You're late! We bought our tickets three months ago and were so excited for this show, even if these tickets were $220..."
I replied, "I just bought my ticket 5 minutes ago out front for $20!"
The wife immediately punched the husband in the arm! "

It's unfortunate, but sometimes we just take these legends for granted until they're gone. I'm somewhat guilty.:(

The Mariner's Church in Detroit held a memorial and rang their bell 30 times on Tuesday, to honor Gordon Lightfoot. It was referred to as the Maritime Sailor's Cathedral.

If you know, you know.

Dad sailed on the freighters on the great lakes for a while knew the church well, talked to him some about it wish I had spent a lot more time listening and asking about his sailing days, was on a liberty ship in WW2 as well kinda lived the song a few times without the tragic ending of course. RIP Gordan great talent
