Just saw this....damn what awful news, one of my favorite Vocalists, and just an awesome person....what a bummer...RIP Chris!!
RIP CC! Another voice of a generation gone. Generation X only has a couple left.
Cornell, Staley, Cobain & Prince all gone to soon.:thumbsdown
Another song that has gone unknown is "Sunshower"...
You forgot Scott Weiland and Bradley Nowell, too.
Geez, who else are we forgetting?

This talk show host framed this sad ending perfectly. His father had committed suicide. He said depression is a monster that wants to be alone with you, then it kills you. He talked about how he had witnessed people that truly struggled with depression (isolation from society) but could sack up and perform in front of hundreds or thousands, appear normal then go back to isolation and crave the isolation. Kinda hit home for me when he put it that way. My dad is that way and I am also. I am to stubborn to off myself, but I am concerned about my dad.

I always enjoy reading your posts. Sounds like you are in control of your quandary and have a conduit for expressing yourself; so whatever you are doing, keep it up.
I can't imagine living alone in one's own mind. Several years back, I learned there is no way a person not suffering from depression can truly understand or relate to its grip. It makes me me sad for anybody in that situation. And, despite the pain it causes, I am at peace with people who check themselves out. Still saddens me, though. Keep a close eye on your pops (I'm sure you do).
Don't forget what the whole Temple of the Dog thing is all about.......if you're an OG of the era, you'll know..........Andrew Wood. If you don't know, do yourself a favor and look up Mother Lover Bone....aka Pearl Jam before the weenie Eddie Vedder showed up.

Another genX'r would be Shannon Hoon from Blind Melon. Not grunge, but alternative and of the time. Their song "Galaxie" was pretty awesome.

You wanna see some good rants by IROCDave.....check out some of the college football threads.
Agreed. When I posted "Say Hello To Heaven" I was thinking of how things have gone full circle and the meaning behind their song to Wood. That song/album was pivotal to the success of so many of the musicians in Seattle.
Eddy Vedder doesnt have the range, but is an above average rock lead man as well. One of my favorite songs by EV -

In my opinion Chris Cornell and Soungarden aren't even in the same league as Eddy Vedder an Pearl Jam. I was like Chris who?
Although I've been listening to his music for years, I don't think I've seen any of their videos. After watching that one, led me to this one for Show Me How to Live and how they incorporated Vanishing Point into the video. Pretty frikkin cool, love that movie. Have to say, seeing news of his passing was a shocker this morning. RIP Chris Cornell...

Damn, I still can't get over this.
His last new song

But Eddy Vedder is a Putz and nowhere near the vocalist that Chris was.
Pearl Jam (and U2)...the best, most critically acclaimed and Uber-popular bands that are like nails on a chalkboard to my ears.
When I say "rockstar", I'm talking about the package as a whole. Cornell had it all - great showmanship, nice guy, good looks, beautiful family, and clearly he loved performing as he did tons of it. I like Vedder and PJ as much as anybody else, but he's not a rockstar at Cornell's level.
Who would you rather hang out with?
Case closed
For the casual fans that liked "spoon Man", the song was written about a homeless guy that played music with spoons while camping out at Pike Place Market. Sound garden used to hump their gear down their to play music and came to know Spoon Man.
All of these Seattle grunge bands knew each other and their history is intertwined, not sure some of of their casual fans really understand what a tight community they flourished in. They came to prominence when most of downtown Seattle was a downtrodden dump.
Still listening to this song everyday. It is stuck in my head. THANKS A LOT!!!!Although I've been listening to his music for years, I don't think I've seen any of their videos.
