RDP folks,
I am looking into a Ring doorbell type option for the house.

Do you guys have any opinions on either one or both? Or why I should or shouldnt go with the Google Home option?

thanks in advance

I did the SkyBell HD, and no complaints yet. Before I bought it there was a great website that reviewed them and this one was the best for us. There is no monthly fee for hosting the recorded video and that was the biggie for us. The ring will allow you to customize the viewing/trigger area of theirs which SkyBell won’t. Our doorbell faces a wall so that was no problem.

Google ring SkyBell comparison or review and you should find some good info on the doorbells.

Yes. Not full blown but as a tool to monitor the house when I am not there or possible with my teenagers are there alone. Its in HB if it makes any difference.

I use a ring wireless spotlight camera over my front door. Completely wireless battery lasts a couple months before you need to charge it. Amazon has them for $139 today

It depends.

Do you want Amazon spying on you (they own Ring), or do you prefer google?

We chose Ring [emoji4]

I had to laugh, as it was an in your face joke, but my 19 year old and his college baseball team buddies stopped by with some girls to hot tub right after I put our RING in. We were at the river, and after I initially got the alert and called him to see what was up no more alerts came in all weekend. I came home to a piece of Blue masking tape over it lmao

Ring x’s 2 here. Doorbell camera, and a camera 20 feet from the side gate, with a solar panel attached to it.

Have not had any issues in 3 or 4 years since adding them.

I went with ARLO and it has been great. Good picture, good reliability. For me its been a great do it yourself system for monitoring the house when I am not home.

I have Ring and it’s pretty easy to set up and use. It has a live feed now that it didn’t used to have so you can access it anytime.

We went with the Arlo Pro Wireless camera at our house. We installed 2 cameras with one at our front door looking down the courtyard that leads to our front door and the other at the entrance gate to our courtyard.

We get about 4-5 months out of the rechargeable batteries. The cameras were simple to install and the hardest part was mounting them and getting the proper angles and views set up.

Des the Arlo have speakers so you can talk to someone that is at the camera or a alert alarm.

Yes our cameras have both and you can turn them on or off to save battery usage.

I'm not a fan of the Ring video. I see crappy shots that people post on nextdoor all the time of someone stealing their package off of their porch. Can't see their face really or the car that they came in. Not sure I am on board with a camera on every house that anyone can tap into. It's a little big brotherish for me. That said I would have a couple of high quality cameras. One at the front door, one on the driveway and one on the street. The fastest way to catch someone is by getting license plates.
