SummitKarl's thread and the subsequent replies made me realize that there are more people in here than I realized (I shoulda known better) that are familiar with REVIT. I am now drawing a lot of our work in 3D but am just using AutoCAD with Duct Designer 3D plug-in (At least I'm on the 2020 edition of both). I talked to a couple of the GC's that we typically work for and they have said they have seen an uptick in clients requesting BIM capable contractors be used. So my boss and I were talking and have decided it would be a good idea to start looking into getting into that realm as well as there are only 2 other contractors in the city that offer that capability and they both have their different negatives about them as well. The biggest problem though is, I have never used REVIT. I thought myself AutoCAD, including the 3D aspect of it so I know I'm barely into the program's capabilities, but since REVIT drawings and AutoCAD drawings do not easily interchange, I need to get familiar with REVIT to be able to be successful with BIM projects.
Anybody have any suggestions for learning REVIT with all that in mind? Keep in mind that I work 50+ hours a week and have 4 kids at home all under 7 so life is a bit hectic and outside learning opportunities are far and few between.
(A current project that I have drawn in AutoCAD 3D, including all the structural steel, TJI's, etc. from the erection drawings. Was field verified to be within an inch, so damn good enough for what we do.)
