Sasha is a rescue. She is forever grateful and loyal to Dave. While she does have her quirks and doesn't love all men...she would protect our babies with her life. I say rescue one!

Sasha might be good with you guys and close friends but she's so skittish that I would never want to deal with that. Don't get me wrong, I do care about her. For me though it's more than I want to deal with. I want to take my dog to sand bar to play frisbee and I don't want her hiding from people if that makes sense? I have a lot of empathy for an abused dog I'm just not willing to take all that on.

We rescued our dog at 6 months and it is absolutely the best 175 dollars I've ever spent. She is great with my little girls and goes everywhere with us and watch out if she doesn't know you and get close to my girls lol.

lot's of opinions here, I'll add mine :)
Robert, seriously dude, wtf? :(

The Boston Terrier thing would not be my first choice for a river guy like you. I have friends who do Havasu a lot and have to watch the "temperature". Short snouted dogs and heat don't mix, people don't get this.
Rescue: lots of reputable breeders have dogs they are willing to sell to good homes because they wouldn't consider them "breed" worthy. For instance, I had a white boxer. The AKC doesn't recognize the white, so she was given to a good home (me) and she lived a good healthy full life, and I knew where she came from. Same with my current boxer, she has a crooked jaw, probably would have ended up a breeder, but I got her from the breeder, had her fixed and she's been a good girl. Just something to think about, breeders do have dogs they won't sell, but will find good homes for.
Rescue is anyone's game, you'll either make a connection or not, move on and find one you feel good about. Every living thing deserves a safe happy life.....

Those Aussie's are tots adorbs, and perfect for your lifestyle.
Good luck!!

I have not read this thread but I know of 2 sisters blood hounds that need a good home. They have always been outside and are 5 or 6 years old. In utah.

Already tuckered out.

Bobby we walked him to corner to pee he never left our side. He's gonna be easy to train to walk.

I should probably snake train him too. I'm gonna take him hiking when he's ready IMG_4855.jpg

Pros and cons people. I like the idea of a rescue dog. I think it's the right thing to do. A little worried about not knowing what breed it really is or the temperament, also I really don't want an abused dog. Sometimes they never seem to right after that.

Happy dogs are good.

How old do you think she can be to start swimming?

I wouldn't rush it too fast. Make sure she has all of her shots before venturing out.

Once her shots are complete (about 4-5 months old), start taking her to the beach whenever it's a nice day. She will probably be hesitant at first but before you know it she will likely love it.

Siberians aren't known to love water but all ours love it.

That's what I was told. But I wouldn't really know.

Quigley is a blue merle with tan points, just like our Kaiya. Congrats Paul! You'll be amazed at how smart they are.

Be careful with the walks, etc until you've done all of the shots. Parvo is nothing to mess with.

You're gonna have a badass river dog!

Also, do yourself a favor and get her checked for MDR1 (multidrug resistance gene). All herding breeds can carry this gene mutation that can cause serious, sometimes fatal, reactions to a large number of drugs, some as common as ivermectin (Heartguard, etc ) and imodium. Test and more info here:
http://vcpl.vetmed.wsu.edu

Kaiya is heterozygous for the mutation, meaning thst she carries normal/mutant genes which makes her sensitive, but not as much as a mutant/mutant (homozygous) dog. I have the bad drug list in our vet's file and on my phone. She also has a tag warning about it in case she were lost and injured. There are alternative drugs, so thus far, it's never been an issue.

I believe an RDP member lost his aussie puppy recently to a drug interaction because most vets are not aware of MDR1.

I will for sure. He's had his second round of shots, but Im super worried about Parvo. I have to use community green areas in the Keys to let him go to the bathroom.

Way to go Paul.......these early stages are important to develop boundaries with her. Those little things you do not want her to do. :p
.
Enjoy the new commitment

Yah dude... Deez had parvo and he bearly made it... it can come from anywhere. Even people tracking it in with their shoes.

Congrads on the pup. I have an aussie too. [emoji12]

This is our rescue from Labs and More. Hannah. They'd given her the name Anna Nicole cuz she's so blonde. We've had her about 1 yr 4mo now and was somewhere between 1 and 2 yrs when we adopted her. She had a litter of pups before adoption. uploadfromtaptalk1487098676188.jpg
She's a Lab mix of some sort....I am led to think it's Terrier by her actions/personality/size. She's kind of a small sized English Lab.

Congrats on the pup Paul. Yeah community dog areas and dog parks are the most risky for Parvo and other bad stuff because that is where all the dogs poo and parvo and many other things are transferred through dog's feces. And Parvo can live a year or longer in the environment so the exposure potential is real. I'd take her somewhere else until a couple weeks after shots are all done to be safe. It takes a week or two for the shots to build full immunity within a dog's system after the actual shot.
