Anyone know if you can fly in and rent a pickup truck or SUV and tow a boat 19' Spectre? From Tennessee to Utah?

I know they have 1/2 ton trucks for rent at National with factory hitches. ( I use these trucks on business travel) Ive seen multiple 1 ton trucks from Enterprise... it really should be no big deal.

If you don't return it, the proposition gets 3X as expensive.

May be cheaper to rent a box truck from uhaul or enterprise and tow with that. We had a buddy tow a Malibu from Texas to CA with one. Need to factor in mpg as well. I’m sure there’s a lot of trucks going to CA to Tn they would brought back to the western US.

Definitely check the rental policy. We were in Arizona a few weeks ago and one of the pilot trucks dropped a valve! He had to rent a vehicle for pilot car duty and the trailer hitch had a numbered Ty- rap thru the pin hole on the hitch and was told absolutely no pulling a trailer. He rented a Jeep Gladiator and the doors were not metal and his magnetic ID signs would not stay attached to the doors! I don’t know what rental company he used.

The newer Tahoes and Suburbans should all have a hitch behind the plastic cover. Hopefully no zip ties?!

A small Uhaul box truck would always work, and it'd probably be a lot cheaper coming towards CA than the other way.. The Uhaul f150s need to be returned to original location.

For local use, I know plenty of trucks are available on Turo.

You have to find an Enterprise Commercial location that rents service trucks, etc. I rented a Ram 4x4 diesel 3500 a few years ago to get my boat to the river. I think it was about 300 a day.

There’s also Uhaul. They rent gas pickups.

I've rented and towed with trucks from enterprise commercial truck division.
(burley races etc) I'm.pretty sure the others offer that too. A standard ram 1500 or efff 1 fity would do you just fine for the boat your after. Those are available from enterprise auto rental division. A 1 way rental may be more/day then a typical local daily rental.
Ex. Local daily rental of Ram 2500 HD Diesel, 4x4 $125.00/day includes 200 miles. Towing is extra $25.00/ day
Ram 1500 is $90.00/day, 200 miles etc. The more days you rent from them the more miles you can coax from them.
Enterprise is very strict on their maintenance schedules to keep the trucks in good reliable cond. Just my experience over the last 2 race seasons.

Towing with a rental is specifically prohibited in the rental agreement unless you get a commercial rental that allows it. That’s a huge pain in the ass. We used to keep a boat in Vegas before we had our place in havasu and would rent a truck to launch it every time we flew into town. The trick with that was renting a Tahoe or suburban. They usually have a receiver hidden under a plastic cover. More of the trucks used to have tow packages, but they wanted to prevent people from towing and started ordering them specifically without. We used to use National, because you could choose the class of vehicle, then select any vehicle in that row. We walked down the row and looked for a SUV with a hitch. Over the years there seemed to be less and less vehicles with the receiver, and it started to become too much of a hassle. It’s your best bet of you want to gamble and void any insurance on your rental. Pick a Tahoe or suburban and don’t let them try to swap you into something else.

I've rented a bunch of trucks from Enterprise that had hitches. They also have a heavy equipment division that is designed for this. Worse case, pay a guy a couple hundred to install a hitch.

Some have rented the small U-haul vans to tow as well.

Is that the 19' long deck custom? I've seen it online a few times if it is, cool to see it found a home!

What are you going to rig it with? Going to keep it a V-Drive like it was originally planned as?

This past May I had to bring a new boat trailer from Ohio to Havasu. I had reserved a 1/2 ton truck from Enterprise as that is who I always use. No receivers in the RAM's they had, so I wandered around the lot and could have grabbed a Tahoe with a hitch, or a Grand Wagoneer with a hitch, but they would have been like $600.00 more, so I saw a Tacoma that had a receiver. It sucked towing an empty boat trailer with a Tacoma as it rode terribly and got terrible mileage. My wife bitched at me the whole way home that I should have sprung for the Tahoe.

Yep that’s the one. Foxwell had a build thread on PB. Yes it will be rigged for Vdrive and to run the Enduro in GN class. 😎

Enterprise has commercial truck centers at most cities. They have hundreds of three-quarter ton trucks all with receiver hitches most are diesels.

I’d make a reservation with every rental car company at the airport so you have several back up plans.

National Emerald Aisle. Take your pick, from mid to full size trucks, most with receivers. Might even get lucky and get a Dodge with a Hemi!

Try putting 400# in the bed next time, sacks of sand create less mess

Many years ago, my brothers' German car broke down at Tejon Ranch as I was driving north to the Bay Area.

A Ford V10 U-Haul truck with a car trailer turned out to be the best option to move the car.

Rent a suburban, they have a factory hitch, and are comfortable. Some of the F150s do not have a factory hitch. This is what I do when I fly to havasu to tow boat around. It is also how I brought a boat back from GA last year. They will have a cover on the hitch with 3 twist pins to remove.

I put the spare tire as far back in the bed as I could along with the bow stop. I did think about stopping at Home Depot for sand, but then the roads got better, with less miles of choppy concrete...until we hit the fine roads of Arizona. Then I wished we had stopped at Home Depot for sandbags.

Yep. I had a three day rental and they even provided me a ball mount sleeve to use. Ram Diesel to boot.

I picked this one up in Fountain Valley but like you stated they have many commercial locations.

Hey! That sounds like an epic road trip! 🚗💨 Renting a pickup or SUV to tow a 19' Spectre boat from Tennessee to Utah is doable, but it's good to check with rental agencies for towing options. Some may have restrictions or specific requirements. For a wider selection of trucks, you might want to check out truckexporter.co.uk. They often have a diverse range, and who knows, you might find the perfect set of wheels for your adventure.

I found a "great" deal on CL one time. Drove to Fresno for a Spectra 20. The boat was a typical $1800 boat, completely original interior. Upon cleaning I found a dead seagull way up forward under the deck.
But the trailer was something I hadn't really considered. I was praying the entire time that everything would hold up. One runner board was missing along with some bolts from the others. First time I put it in the water a board floated away unnoticed. That kinda sucked. Have a great trip.
