I love HTM's, always have. Always wanted the twin outboard SR24, almost bought it about 5 times but it never quite worked out.

I used to have a folder full of htm pics from the past, the patents for the hull, videos of them at firebird lake racing, etc...but I have no idea what computer that folder is on now.

I met Ken and Steve when I was working the TRAP Taskforce. Great guys, always helpful. It really hurt when they died, Steve was a great family man, took business and boating risks. he even flew his own plane, no license... But it worked to Barstow Airport when he was going to expand beyond his home property facility. Lia, Just a super wife, she came to my Havasu house with friends a few years after for a party. RIP to all.

A HTM Facebook page was started, and the crowd convinced the girls To buy the molds back. Lots of if you guys built them we would buy type posts.. the acquired the molds and even were going to do some updating on something (can’t remember what?).

Long story short nobody stepped up to the plate to buy one.

I believe Pedro at Saleen has the molds now. On what conditions (if he pays a royalty?) or if he owns them I’m not sure.

RD
Yea Pedro has three molds for sure but i wanna say he also has the 30’ mold.
He has the SR, the SS, and the Deck boat for sure as I’ve seen them. Crawled around in the deck boat, was absolutely insane how big the engine bay is, I’m 6’3” and stepped down into there and was shoulders deep.
The SR and SS he was just strengthening and cleaning up the molds and the deck he’s working to do a little restyle on the upper deck.
He will take an order right now and start a build for anyone serious.

Funny this thread popped up too, we were hanging out with Pedro this morning and he gave my son an HTM bucket hat.

Ken was the only body found that day. He had a life jacket on. The rest they found later at 250 plus feet deep. Took professional divers to find them and bring them up. Had to so it slow as to not break the bodies apart.

Anything with big power or power in general you must respect. When you don’t respect the power it will bite you in the ass I don’t care how experienced or what the vehicle is. Push it to the limit shit happens eventually.
I tried racing that big power 28 Howard bullet Yellow and checkers was on hot boat cover.

I had that thing really light in the front and scooting. Man my dad got pissed. I was winning when my dad slapped the shit out of the back of my head from the rear seat.

I remember Mr.Pumps and those eerie posts the day(s) on HotBoat before the HTM tragedy.
There were several people going at it over the wisdom/safety of the upcoming speed tests.
Got pretty heated the night before.
Someone posted "y'all gonna kill yourselves "
Damn...those were crazy times.
Remember it well too an rd comment on it was spot on.

Think they ran 149 and wanted 150 going back with new props and couple weeks to get there.

Anyone know what happened to all the Hotboat.net forum posts? Did they get deleted forever or are they stored somewhere?

The old RCL christmas thread was the best... A lot of funny Jeff Martin/Tony Scarlata trash talking then too.....wish it was still around. So much good stuff on there back in the day. Seems like everyone is spread out now on FB or etc. Definitely not the drag boat racing community it used to be online

Memories fading but wasn't it a recovered(sunk) Hawaiian?
I seem to rem Kevin Spaise alluding to that in a Hotboat column.

I think you’re right. I remember tid bits but clearly remember it being a Hawaiian bottom.

I’ve been in a couple HTM’s and always thought they were a blast to drive. Definitely more of a drivers boat but that’s what I prefer in a cat.

Steve and his team would’ve likely done some unique stuff in the cat community had they not met their demise that day.

A lot of the old Hotboat forum stuff can be found here: https://riverracer.net/forums/forum.php

The accident happened a couple years before I got on HB but I remember it coming up occasionally. I got curious today... I never actually found the actual thread from the accident that day, but several others related to it here:

RIP to those involved... and the others who are no longer here.

It’s extremely similar to a 28 warlock ;).. similar enough that if you were to look at the side by side it would be hard to tell the difference
Steve and I had a conversation over dinner in Havi one night, he admitted to me that he splashed that bottom

The molds are back with Lia now (I've seen them) not sure if her and her family have any plans for them but they're in storage

You guys might be right about the Hawaiian bottom, the convo I had with Steve was about 25 yrs ago and I was drinking at dinner soooo...😏
As far as the molds, maybe there's multiple but I have seen the molds recently and they're owned by Lia and her husband Andrew

I wish I got to enjoy mine more, but there were just too many gremlins from poor ownership of the previous owners when I bought her. I loved the boat, but it always had me wrenching on it. It was a dream boat purchase and I am proud to say I have owned one of the cleanest and newest SS examples out there. But I am in a different stage in life.

And getting in from the beach on that sloped deck is fucking BRUTAL!

Which are you saying is built like shit? A warlock or HTM. Wasn't quite clear.

Hawaiian is built terrible. I knew a guy with one (which was the same hull as a 28 warlock). We crossed a couple wakes and that thing had an interesting “flexibottom” feature that I have never seen in a boat before.. lol

It’s the purple and white one that is still around.

Thanks for clarifying. I definitely misread that one.
