I know theres an Interior section but figured get some boating content in here.

Would like to redo the interior on my mach 22 so who is reliable and decent turn around ?

So far on top of the list for me is KMG but would like to hear about other shops as well. I don't want my boat to be sitting outside for months.

As for material. Still never really got an answer about alcantara longevity. How does it hold up with kids? If I forget to put a towel on it, will it fade? What about cool touch vinyl? Is that the same as soft skin?

LMK!
Thanks.

I’ve heard good things about Renee at riverside boat upholstery. Never used them personally but I’ve read good things. Not to sure how Martinez is doing as I’ve recently heard some horror stories and was missed dates and people pulling boats. But that could be just things getting twisted passing from person to person.

Oh boy, to be honest I think it is impossible to find a shop that will meet your expectations of customer service. I really like Martinez, but my expectations are not crazy high and your boat will sit out for a few months.

I have a guy in Escondido that is decent and will just take your interior and have you take the boat. However, he is more geared towards just doing the same interior as you have and not changing the looks or the seats and inserts.

There is a big shop in San Diego where a lot of companies get their material. I would probably ask them. Keyston Bros 858-277-7770. You may want to go in there too and see all the different fabrics and carpets.

My concern with the Alacantra is what effect does suntan lotions/sunscreens do to the fabric. With small kids like yours I’m sure Mom puts plenty on them. Also spilled drinks and such are a concern too. Remember that you use your boat, it is not just for photo shoots filled with bimbos. Not that that’s a bad thing.

Martinez is at the bottom of the list. I see many stories on Facebook.

Granted I had my Daytona done 4 years abo or so, but looking back I wish I’d have had them do it. I couldn’t get anyone to commit, it was frustrating.

Is Fear still doing interior stuff? He was at least responsive. Call DCB, I don’t think you’ll be as shocked as you think.

When I have the coin, Renee at riverside boat upholstery. I used him for some parts I brought him when he worked out of his garage. Very quality work. My buddy had his 21 Daytona done, it looks great.

I recommend Rene at Riverside Upholstery as well. He's done several things for me, both at his house, and now at his shop. Each time price was fair, done when he said, and very happy with the work. He was recommended to me by Custom Canvas when they stopped doing upholstery work.

Can I talk you out of trying to “modernize” the interior?

Period correct is always choice!

Hear me out…..you can count on two hands probably how many 22 twin survivors there are left. They are classic and timeless. Your boat is timeless and will always have a niche.

Flashing colored speaker grills, alcantara seats and gatorstep are all fads. They will come and go.

But im an old man. So theres that!

Kevin at KMG will be the best place I'm thinking, I was down there last winter, some great looking interiors were being installed. Boat stays inside, I didn't see anything being left outside. Nobody knows these boats better.

Especially with those hard seat backs. That is an art and skill in itself that I am sure most typical upholstery shops havent mastered!

That’s were I am going with my Cole next month. He has already Done the open bow seating and the engine cover just has to finish the main seating area. Does excellent work ! not the cheapest but you have to pay for quality work. Plus I like that boat my stays inside .

Renee at Riverside Boat Upholstery for the win x100.

He redid my Cole this year. I can’t tell you how many compliments I’ve gotten on it… from several popular boat shops and other interior guys.

Besides being a genuinely nice person, he was on budget and spot on with the timeframe. All new configuration including wood and carpet, in two weeks. He hit every mark we wanted.

Thanks brother! It was a labor of love re doing the boat from head to toe for a solid year, but she made it out four trips this summer and ran perfectly every time. Final product below, including new matching bimini.

I really need to do a rebuild thread on this project.

@ChrisV Sorry I'm late. lol..

Rene has done full interior on my 18 mini an 300T. He also did some alterations to my 270T.

I am one of his biggest cheerleaders.

You'll get the tri-fecta with him. 1. He is always on time and keeps to his promised schedule. 2. He is also always on budget and his pricing is more than fair. 3. And his quality is top notch.

I would definitely take the boat by there and talk with him.

Renee did his 300 and it looks great. First class work and i would not hesitate to use him. From talking with Greg it was done on time and at price quoted. Time line was much shorter then most shops as well.
I won't go anywhere else.

Can’t get a call back from DCB about interior so I called Rene and he said my boat is too big for his shop. Lol. What’s another option?

Spoke to her too. Said they were booked for months and was less than pleasant to talk to.

Shockwave did an awesome job on a full interior and open bow conversion on my buddies 29 Magnatude. I don’t know if they do non-shockwave boats, or how busy they are, but his boat turned out killer.
