Before starting this thread, I searched for a thread containing numerous variations of this title, but couldn't find one dedicated to businesses in general closing or leaving California. I know of the "RV Manufacturers Leaving CA" thread and of course there are numerous threads regarding individuals calling it quits and fleeing for greener pastures. I saw this article this afternoon and it prompted me.....

What's the reason they are laying off so many people? Is it due to the distribution here in CA that's being hampered by the overly strict trucking/emissions laws? Is it due to mismanagement of funds at a leadership level? What gives?

I was a bit surprised when I noticed Advance auto parts were closing all their California stores enough to share it with the inmates of RDP recently... For what it's worth, engine oil is at 40% off right now but long lines still as the signs say everything must go.

Have to wait outside our local Advance Auto Parts and the sign says could be 2-3 hour wait.

It's nearly impossible to keep one of those trucks running with the emission shit on them . I know . I own one.
Looked at a truck in limp the other day. DD13 motor. I believe an '18 or '19. It had the "One Box" emissions setup on it. All the after treatment BS in one big ass brick under the passenger steps. Underneath the spot welded heat shields, it had cracks and soot trails.

New "One Box", is right around 15k...just to keep the truck making money. That's insane!

I have an 06 Volvo d12d , the last year before the burner box and def. Keep in mind this is an 06 . I just tore this truck apart from eyeball to asshole looking for a broken wire. It has 7 modules that all communicate on the high speed 1939 can bus network through a green and yellow twisted pair wires that run ALL over the truck . There is also a twisted pair of black wires through the whole truck for low speed 1708 comm for backup but it derates the truck and pulls about 150 horse from motor if high speed can go's down . No broken wire. So it must be a module . You can't just take a computer out of another truck because it won't run. All modules have to have same chassis vin number or they don't play nice. Now the only way to program it is from dealer hooked to Volvo mainframe with vin for programing . I can't put an led bulb where there was an incandescent bulb because the light control module doesn't detect the right amperage draw and sets the check engine light. Yes there are people out there doing half assed tuning but there is proprietary programming in there that nobody can get to .Each module runs about 2000 dollars plus 800 for programing. So you gotta make goddamn sure it's not a broken wire first. I saw T&y asking about his nephew or something getting into the industry. I wouldn't recommend this job to a dog right now. My advice for him would be go hang out at any truck stop for a day and look at what piles out of those trucks . Are you sure you want to get involved in that ? Wheels ain't turning you ain't earning . Nobody right now can afford these break downs. Your governor just shut down the trucking industry in California . I would strongly recommend a different career right now. It has to change. Sorry for the long answer but this shit is a nightmare . Have a nice day. I have to go work on my junk .
