December was an emotional month. The first part of the month we had to say good bye to our little mutt Maxie, part of the family for almost 15 years. She was a great dog, fearless for such a little shit.
Our girl Daisy the Doberman seemed ok being an only dog,but we knew how much she likes the play time with other dogs so set out searching for a dog her speed.
We found this guy.:)

He's a total dork!Reallly tall,way beyond breed standard.
He knew his basics, sit, stay, come, etc but had no clue how to do stairs or a dog door.He mastered the stairs in less than 24 hours with a bit of coaxing with some ham;)The door he got within a couple of tries, and his door manners overall are excellent, never crowds anyone and waits to be invited.

They have a blast,this is "play" image.jpg

Running the hills!

He's great with my teen age kids.We had the wife's 6 and 9 year old nieces over a couple weeks ago,his first experience with smaller kids. His reaction was like his long lost best friends in the world came home:)
He's fitting in very well.👍

Awwww!! Look at that face!!! Congrats on your new family member!
Thanks:)
Don't let that face fool you,he's a sweetheart but he can be a stinker;)
Notice that little chip missing from his left ear?

The girl who runs the rescue has 3 Dobermans of her own, they are all athletic.
Schutzhund, agility, all that.He went in there thinking he was Tito Ortiz or something, her bitch thought and proved otherwise. Two tooth marks all the way through and that chip gone.He didn't try that again;)
If you've seen the Droid commercial with Ed Norton there's a half second of him being chased in a dark alley by big black dogs, that bitch was one if them.

Can't wait for warm weather and getting him in the pool,Daisy loves it!

Congrats on the new pup. I think it is better to have two also. I had two Schnauzers for 16 years. After I had to put the last one down I missed having a dog so bad I got these two. Sorry it's sideways.

The stair thing...
When we got our Aussie Cattledog, he was maybe 8-10 weeks.
Brought him home and carried him so we could slowly introduce him to the two other dogs.
After a few minutes we figure he may need to go out.
The deck to the backyard was elevated and had a stair.
He follows the other dogs out, see's them go down the stair, then tries it.
Ass-over-applecart all the way down!!!:eek
Now he is limping around the yard, and I'm thinking "I'm home fore 5 minutes and already broke my dog":rolleyes
He was fine, just being dramatic.
I had never even thought about the "stair" thing.:D

Hard to believe this guy is closing in on 9 years old.
Sort of blows my mind.
Look how he glows in the filtered light of Smokey California.

I think his hearing is starting to go.
I started teaching him some basic commands in sign several years ago.

As long as I can get his attention (an E collar with a vibrate feature) I can let him know.
I have him pretty dialed in to come to me and pop into a heal/sit. One command.
From there I can have him sit or lay, hold that stay and throw his ball.
He’ll hold that stay as long as it takes.
With a release he, after his prize. So he understands some basics.

These are tricks I learned from @endobear adter his family adopted a Rottweiler that ended up being completely deaf.
Where there’s a will there is a way.
If Rocky outlives his capability to hear, we are covered. The old black bastard.😎
My liberal daughter hates it when I call him that😂

He pretty much let’s this new almost 2 year old female rule the roost. For the most part.
Every now and then she gets a lil too froggy.
He pulls some sort of Doberman Kung Foo move and bounces and stands over her saying I just did that, and there wasn’t a damn thing you could have done about it😎😈
