Skips toon and CC

Fishing and old man boats there

90’s would be 21’ skiers (ultra, hallett, ect
2000’s would 25’ Daytonas and 25 vee
2010. Deck boats/big cats Dcb
2020 mti with 450’e
definitely agree in 90s and 2000s use to go alot to havasu back then and lot of 21s in 90s and the daytonas in early 2000s.

Besides that 70s flats and jets ruled,80s still carried on but the bigger jet daycruisers came in too.

So I was thinking last night of doing a shirt different than just a normal “boat” shirt. I was thinking of doing a “Evolution of Boating” shirt.

Starting with the old outboard ski boats and v drives of the 60’s. (Pics)

Then moving onto the more modern flats / shovel nose?

Then the invention of the Eliminator Daytona

Moving onto day cruisers

Moving onto larger Vee’s and Cats

Then finishing it up with ?? I was thinking a twin outboard cat and twin outboard toon. Or maybe replace the toon with a center console?

What are the members thoughts on the evolution of boating. Which boats would you use and along what timelines?

1960’s - (image) flat bottom / outboard (image)
1970’s - etc etc
1980’s
1990’s
2000’s
2010’s
2020’s

Also if you have images of what you think fits whatever era please post them up with the era you are thinking!

CC are not west coast boats, sorry bud

Toons are not either. They are everywhere boat.
And if your boat could of been a beer can in a previous life it shouldn’t be on a y-shirt, unless it’s one that hauls up rapids at 100mph.

Yes and I own that boat today. I have tried to track Craig down a few times unsuccessfully.
He is somewhere in North County San Diego. I here he still helps with his son drag racing. I have always hopes to run into him.

What about one of the most iconic styled boats of all time? The 20/21' day cruiser of the 60's and 70's? i.e. Spectra, Schiada, Howard, etc....

I agree 100% about the 20 Spectra. But it along with the 18 Southwind and the 16 Tahiti were THE most influential boats from the 60s and 70s and the most splashed. Almost every shop had a splash of each, some only offered their copies of these 3. Even to this day, the 20 Spectra bottom is still in production with the builder using the Howard molds.

Hands down though, the most influential boat from that era, the 16 Tahiti. There were 2 kinds of boats before '64, flat bottoms and fishing boats (yes I know it was the era of the cats too like Stylecraft and PowerCat), but you couldn't throw a stick in the water on the strip in the 60s without bouncing it off the deck of a Tahiti or one of it's clones.

Actually about my comment about the 16 Tahiti, it should be noted that Schuster borrowed a brand new Glastron with the then new 'Aqua Lift' bottom and splashed the hull, not the deck, and he and Gil Gaska built the little SK deck on that bottom. Still, it changed everything.

Obviously Spectra has the most recognized and splashed shape for 80's era Daycruisers, many splashes of the 18 and 19 as well, IMO the 19 is the unsung sleeper hotrod of the 80's.

Are you thinking like a simple vertical list in rows? They would be small icons but you could probably fit 30 of them across the back of a shirt and still be recognizable and readable with a simple label on each.

Front of the shirt maybe a circle of words like " West Coast Boating Legends" around the RDP.... Or West Coast on the top curved and Boasting Legends on the bottom curve.

Just throwing some ideas ripped off from a few shirts I have seen with hot rods and such.

Actually now that I've put more thought into this than I want to, Campbell would have to go down as the most infulental day cruiser of all time. They set the standard for quality and style and from a profile point of view, all others followed suit. They were building cruisers in the 50's, more than a decade before Spectra.

1970 jet bote for the shirt? What do you think old rigger? Tahiti splash? And I’m thinking about a Cole from the 80’s for the shirt. I’ll take 2 shirts. Long sleeves... all cotton please.

Most defiantly a Tahiti splash. The one indisputable clue is the target on the sides of the hull, put in place by Gil Gaska when Dick borrowed that new Glastron.

Schuster and Gaska both came from Power Cat boats in Bellflower. Later that building would be Howard Brown's shop for 30 odd years.

Great Idea Dave, we used to sit on the beach and look at the evolution of the flat bottoms as we had early 60's, mid 60's and mid 70's in our group and you could see the changes right in front of you...The drone shot isn't that great but its got the 63' Spit Fire (similar to a Patterson) 67' Hallett, 77' Sanger, 81' Bahnner and mid 90's Sanger Tournament Boat. The transom shot of the 5 flats is left to right - 75' Sanger, 77' Sanger, 63 Spit Fire, 69' Eliminator and 67 Hallett. Spectra is a 74' 20 vdrive, and there is a 64' Gaylord

yes on one shirt.. small Images
No,you need consider this idea be released as a concept of “Editions” the timing of release of Editions depends how much you want invest in this idea. But sure as hell these shirts ,hats, or whatever you provide will be success. This evolution subject deserves more than 1 shirt.

I'd like to run into him too. I'll do some digging around again, maybe I can find his son

could be cool....

Would skip the center consoles and toons. Nothing wrong with either but i don't think it will look good on the shirt.

End with a newer cat with outboards.
Definitely this. Never would I wear or buy a boating shirt with a pontoon on it.

People sit in aww of the money and leisure. Toons don’t turns heads like a performance boat.

can make some calls if it’s important to you. I know he was racing a Nova in San Diego not too long ago.

Great idea but a series of t-shirts would be great and you could always add other boats

I get more thumbs up and comments on my toon than any boat I have ever owned. Couldn’t tell ya why but that’s the truth.

That said I’d rather finish this on the DCB m37 as the last boat

My vote for 1980's should be a Sleekcraft SST mod VP. Nescher started the mod VP evolution in performance boats.
I bought a new sleekcraft in 1982 from Jim Folley in santa fe springs, They did there own upholstery, built the trailer at the location. They sent the boat down the street to
have it rigged at Dick Sheers shop. SST sleek with a 200 black max cost $12,500, Took only 5 weeks to complete and hit the water !

I love some more history on my boat. I don't believe it's ever been back in the water after he stopped racing it.

I made this up a few years ago. I still have 10-20 shirts left. After having a few Hallett boats, I wanted something nostalgic representing the brand. A lot of people including me are suckers for these old logos.

My pick for 1970's would be a Roger's jet boat.
Obviously you get my fucking vote on this. Rogers 18 Bubble, one of the most iconic jets ever tooled up not to mention one of the best bottoms. Plus Roger along with Dick Schuster and Dick Clark, are the team that invented deep v jet boats. It all sprang from them and a 16 Tahiti. Before that happened jets were in flat bottoms or deep entry flats like turbocraft and similar hulls of the late 50s and early 60s.
Those guys deserve their own shirt.

Something I've been working on. It's a window sticker idea for my Eliminator sport cruiser.
Im still making changes, this is what I have so far still need to clean up some details. It would be cool to see something like this on the shirt

1974 Hondo XH511T, a highly copied flatbottom that is still relevant today.
