Anyone have one. I have a few trees to trim up. Anyone use them? Which brand?

So last time I wanted to trim my trees, my gas chainsaw wouldn’t start or run. Pulled carb apart cleaned it up. Had to wait wait 2 days for a part. Finally got it running. So here it is 2.5 yrs later. Fucker won’t start.

Not looking to be a lumber jack. My thoughts grab a couple batteries. Charge them. Trim trees this evening when kinda cools off or until batteries need charging. If it takes a couple evenings that’s fine. Just don’t want to have to OH my damn chainsaw every couple yrs to use it

I've got the Dewalt 20v 12" chainsaw, and it actually works really well, & goes a long time on one 4 amp battery. Really handy too, I like the way "it's off" as soon as you let of the trigger, you want to toss it on the ground to grab the limb, it's off, not like an idling chainsaw. I've got just about all of the 20v Dewalt stuff, but I think the chainsaw amazes me the most.

I am not a huge battery powered yard equipment fan but also sick of dealing with carb/ jet issues.

I purchased a cheaper Ryobi chain saw last summer for minimal use and it works great. Same battery pack as my weed whacker and blower. I was pretty surprised how well it cut through trees, fire wood, etc.

Love my Makita 36V It uses the batteries I already have for everything else.

I would go with the Makita 40 Volt If I had to buy again today.

I keep the Stihl MS 251 in the shed for everything but full on tree work now.

Buy one brand and stick with it.

I’ve got Dewalt 18” chain saw, weed eater, lawn mower, all came with a battery and the battery can be used in each tool interchangeably while the others are charging.

So I never really run out of juice.

Dewalt chainsaw rocks. So much easier than mucking with gas/premix/carbs. It’ll cut through anything a comparably sized gas model will.

I have the Milwaukee 12V, 6 inch chain saw and it kicks ass. It’s perfect for any limbs around 4”. The saw actually scares me. It looks like a toy but it definitely not.

No recommendations on a battery powered chainsaw. However, if you haven’t yet, I’d suggest switching to TruFuel pre-mix or similar for gas powered 2-stroke lawn equipment. I was always rebuilding the carbs running 87 from pump until I made the switch to TruFuel. New carb for your existing saw will be way cheaper than a new battery powered saw.

This. 1000x this, its the ethanol in the fuel youre using (it eats the fuel lines, reeds in the carb and gaskets). The pre mix is ethanol free and lasts a lot longer than fuel with ethanol in it. ive got 2 chainsaws that I only use once or twice a year but they start on the first or second pull basically every time.

Did all the research 2 weeks ago and ended up going with the dewalt. Pretty happy with it and the price point.

I like my Stihl. Unlike the gas ones I have, I've found that I dont run the depth grind as deep. Still sharp but makes the battery last much longer.

This!

I picked up a used set of 40v Dewalt three years ago. I have not fired any of the gas saws since. I actually do a lot of cutting and pruning. Never lacked for power and the batteries last very well. If I was doing new, it would be the 60v Dewalt all the way...... after using it a little its one of those "where have you been all my life?" tools.

Total game changer.

That said if I was cutting down a large tree, I would still be gas. Things like fruit trees, major pruning, etc - battery only at this point.

If it’s been 2 years since you last used your saw

If you want a new tool / toy buy a saw (tool only ) for the cordless batteries & tools you already own, that way the batteries will be fresh.

I did the same thing for my pressure washer and lawn mower, a gallon lasts me the summer, both pieces of equipment start first pull ever since I switched, I use the VP fuel, but it's basically the same as the trufuel.

For the OP. If you already have a cordless battery platform just buy what your cordless tools are, they're pretty much the same, some better than others, but they will work.
