I did this to my 03 3500 GMC towing the cigarette back from havasu after being on the water all day. Midnight, Exhausted. Pulled into the flying J in Barstow. Yep, filled up with gas. Got a few miles down the 15 clunking blowing white smoke….dead.

Had it towed to the local GMC shop in liquorville. They found it full of gas. Drained it, flushed it, replaced injectors. Ran fine. Cost a grand. Never had an issue again.

My friend pumped DEF into my gas truck. I had no clue but figured it out after I was broke down in a bad part of Stockton. Some good samaritans saved my ass that day.
Yeah that ended up being a long trip to Long Beach!
All the time at HomeDepot I see people filling their radiators and windshield wiper fluid with DEF fluid. I just stopped pointing it out to them as everyone responds by pointing at the PEAK label and giving me the look like I'm a dumbass.

I did it in my 07’ durramax, ran it a block and then had it towed to my independent Guy.

Totally wasn’t my fault. Chick with a huge set of knockers was walking down the sidewalk and distracted me.

drained it and put diesel in it, did an oil change… I put another 200K on it before I sold it.

independent guy gave out my diesel/gas for free lawnmower fuel.

If you do this in a ford, you’re probably going to have to jack up the radiator cap and replace the truck then get a new radiator cap ASAP

I’ll one up everyone, put def in the fuel tank while drunk one night at home in the garage.

My buddies lady did this on his new Cummins, made a mess of the fuel system and ended up with all new injectors pumps, lines and a head if I remember things right.

Tell him to go through ins. and let the dealer fix it, it's now in ford's system and they could give him problems with warranty if something goes south in the future.

I just did this in my 2018 power stroke. Here’s what I did and it seems to be fine. Pumped 30 gallons of 87 into it. Hung up the pump, then put 6 more gallons of diesel in it. Tank was full at that point. That’s when I realized what had happened. I was about 20 miles from home. I dumped 2-1/4 gallons of 10w-40 in the tank. I should have added more, but I was so pissed I couldn’t think straight. Basically I was trying to add motor oil to the mix to bring the molecular weight of the mix up to that of diesel. I was close enough I guess. Fired the truck up and headed for home. I was about 17,000 gvw. I drove as easy as I could about 60 mph, all was ok. About 2 miles from my house there’s a short 12% grade. The truck started pinging and knocking and went into limp mode but it made it to the top. Limp mode went away and I putted along about 45 mph and made it home.
I unhooked the two fuel lines closest to the front of the truck on the fuel filter under the hood and ran them into a can. They seem to be the outlets. I pulled the glow plug fuse. Not sure if this was necessary but I did it. I then turned the key on and used the trucks electric pump to pump out all the fuel. This took a few hours as the pump only runs for about 30 seconds, then you have to cycle the key again. After pumping out all the fuel I dumped 5 gallons of red diesel in the tank and 1 quart of ATF. Then cycled the fuel pump some more until the red diesel flowed out of the filter. I put it all back together and started it up. It didn’t want to start. It took several attempts before it finally ran, but it was smooth. I drove it to town and filled it with diesel. Seems to be ok.

One of my great uncles told a story about a trucker pulling into his Mobile gas station and getting regular gas and cases of 30 weight oil to keep going.

I have never read the "official" mixture, but it seems what you did worked.
