The wife asked me what i want this year for Christmas. I was dumbfounded at first because for once I really didn't want anything. Then I saw some simulator racing on IG and damn that looks like fun.
Anybody have one or can recommend one? Mind you I'm not loaded so this would be the Walmart version.

You can go down a rabbit hole on these things...

Probably out of your budget but some inspiration.

What do you want to know? I deep dived into it a couple years ago and built my sim during Covid. I would have what I consider an entry level direct drive setup which cost about a $1000. However, that price does not include the PC or monitor.

Everybody always wants new but you can get some badass used sim set ups on Facebook marketplace. 3 monitor style rigs are the best. Always look at what controls it has, some brands are better than others. Check the computer specs too, technology gets dated really fast

There are two locations for this place in SoCal, go there and play with them before you decide to head down some nerd rabbit hole. Some people are really into this home sim stuff, personally I don’t get it but I’m not a video game person so there is that. If you think it’s your thing I’m sure you can pick up all the equipment for pennys on the dollars and build out your own rig at home. You might want to dive down the VR rabbit hole also before you pick your poison.

I have one I would sell. Fully articulated and 3 50” screens. Pretty fun but I just don’t use it.

I have had one for coming up on a year.

I’m not really a gamer but will use it when we have people over. It’s a blast when you are competing with buddies after a couple drinks.

My 15 y/o son rips on it and I have hink it has really helped him get better at driving stick and understanding performance driving. He uses it way more than me and has a bunch of friends over often to hang out and play.

It all depends on budget, and are you going the PC route, much better, or doing it off of a Playstation or Xbox, which I started with. I would recommend going with a PC, and you can start with Thrustmaster wheel and pedals, and get a chassis from GT Omega racing for example. Personally, I would see what you can get from someone that already spent the money and pick it up used. Let me know if you have any questions.

I will do some searching for a used one. I figure they're like cars. You can build nice car, but it's cheaper buying someone else's already built car. Someone also mentioned the VR. Nope can't do it. That shit messes with my stomach big time...lol

Quick question. Most of the ones I see are simulating indy type cars. I would be more interested in rally type driving or maybe TT. I'm assuming this is just different programming?

I'm sure this is out of my range, but I'll ask anyway and is there a way to mellow out the seat...lol

Are you talking about the look of the simulator or the actual games? Iracing is typically what I drive on on mine. They have pretty much every race car you can imagine. Rally and trophy trucks are really fun on there. The trophy truck is short course racing, no open Baja style driving

Have a buddy that builds custom setups. He had one at the sand show. The full motion setup is pretty awesome and you can switch between all kinds of racing. Offroad, f1, etc.

There is BeamNG but it is just a vehicle simulator that has became extremely popular with the off-road community.

My "favorite" ones are the ones made "out of"/in a sprint car chassis for dirt car racing...

There is so much adjustment and settings I have not even gone there. 25k or somewhere around there.
