This afternoon the dog and I were heading home from Havasu to So Cal. As soon as I left the driveway. Started rolling up windows. The last window (driver side rear) made a hell of a noise. It stopped about 4” from the top. I always gas up at the 40 and 95 so figured I would take a look there.

Getting gas now and started fiddling with the window. After the ride up 95 it’s almost completely down. Pulled the window up by hand while hitting window switch in both directions and nothing. SOB now what. lol
I’m looking at the store thinking maybe they have tape. Then the reality set in, I wouldn’t just be able to lock up the car and go check.

Five seconds later a young man walks up behind me and asked if I needed some tape. He looked and talked like Kyle from the TV show Last Man Standing to kind of give a visual picture. lol.. Anyways he must have saw me screwing with the window or read my mind or something. Think he worked there and was posting some signs around the pumps with the tape in his hand.

So he helped me tape the window in the up position. I pulled out my wallet and gave him $10 as a thank you. He seemed pretty excited about that. After that he even offered to give me the role of tape. I declined that offer as I was sure the tape job would hold the 250 miles home.

Just thought it was crazy how this young man took an opportunity to help some stranger. Even the fact that he was there with tape at all was crazy.

Replaying the whole event it in my head after hitting the highway. I started thinking maybe I cheaped out and should have given him $20 as a thank you. Can’t buy shit with $10 anymore.

$10 was a nice gesture $20 would of been better but he appreciated it.

I was eating lunch today. Regular spot that you order at the cashier but they drop your plate at the table. There was a big group in there like 15. Never seen that. But nothing in the tip jar. I dropped $5 like usual. She gave me extra chips and a big thanks.

That big group finishes up and one guy says don't clean up we don't work here. Mind you they took up half the tables and moved them all next to each other. Hell of a mess. I gave them all a disgusting look and bit my tongue. One old lady in the group was kind enough to ask where to put the plates and a few other ladies followed suit. All the guys just walked out.

I was about to walk up and hand the 2 girls $20 in front of them and say this is for those pigs.

Now you need a new window regulator, as the cable is wound up on the drum. If it is a Ford you might get some help at the dealership as there was a class action suit against Ford for this. All the manufacturers now use the same crappy system, so it is only a matter of time before they fail. In the meantime, if you remove the trim panel, you can cut the cable with some dykes, pull the window up and put a sheet metal screw through the channel to secure it.

No money involved but when the young girl at the counter at AutoZone helped me with a tool rental, she was knowledgeable and friendly. After transaction was completed, I did give her a nice verbal “Thank you” and said she had a “nice smile” which made her smile again. I don’t think a lot of customers show simple appreciation for good service.

Nice story.

It's sad, though, that you guys think strangers being kind is something unusual. Hopefully, you'll remember this situation when you see someone else struggling and take just a moment out of your busy day to ask if they need help.

I delivered pizza in HS and was a bar tender in college. I couldn’t believe how cheap most people were. In a lot of instances there was no tip at all and in some, it was a quarter or 50 cents. This always stuck with me.

I always tip well for decent service as a result. I actually tipped the uber driver $50 on Christmas Day for the drive to the airport.

Tipping is insanely out of control. It's expected everywhere for everything. Additionally, 18% was considered a "good" tip..now the expectation is 22-25% even though cost of goods has already went up.

The concept of tipping somebody was always to reward them for exceptional service that you would have otherwise not received. Tipping in the food industry used to be because wait staff was usually paid below minimum wage. Nowadays everybody thinks they deserve a tip even if they're just pouring you a cup of coffee at a counter. Food Service workers now all get minimum wage which in California is $17+ an hour.

I refuse to give somebody a tip for doing their job, that's between them and their employer. As an employer I expect my guys to do what they're paid to do and at the end of the year if they do it well then I give them a tip/bonus not my customers.

That's not to say that I'm a cheap tipper if I receive exceptional service I absolutely will reward that person with a tip. But it isn't going to be any place I get my food from a counter or a window.

Pretty much Every window regulator, in every car, is made of plastic components now days.

The one on my daughters Volt, just took a shit, and O'Riley's had it in stock.

Took maybe an hour to do the whole job.

Telling someone to run a sheet metal screw, through a window channel, is an easy way to turn a simple job into a nightmare down the road!!!

Definitely don't do that and just replace the regulator. Easy peasy. 👍🏼

No one is going to want to fix those ugly toenails of yours” - My compassionate wife.

I go to a Non English speaking nail shop and Tami uses a Dremmel to blast away and they look good for about two months.
I tip her fat for an hours worth of labor.

A few bartenders around LV and Simi are glad to see me too.
Who says ya can’t buy friends?

I kept all the Ford regulators and Chevy truck front doors in stock at my shop. The center guide or front and rear channel is part of the regulator on most. It gets replaced with the regulator, so no harm with a screw or pop rivet. When it is 110 degrees outside, and people have the window fall down in the middle of the desert it makes sense.

Majority of places I go I get great service.

Was picking up a few cabinet orders today and placing a big one. My 10% voucher expires today. So it saved me 2k.

I had 3 issues with Previous orders. My sales guy was like you have to bring the whole cabinet back to exchange. I explained it wasn't possible the bases were installed. I get to the warehouse and all the guys are saying what's up and the guy bringing my order I hand him the return authorization. He says wheres the returns. I forgot one and one is installed. I can't give you them without the return. Explain the situation. He brings them with my order.

I hand him $20 I am buying you a beer for new years. Before I left he gave me 3 other pieces from a damaged box I could use. I usually just buy them all sodas. It's crazy how much better service I get there now from a coke.
