With all the crap at one point that Windsor was wanting to charge more money for a larger boats had me thinking of other options of where to launch. Besides Windsor, we generally go to Havasu springs or the Islander "when we bring the travel trailer". It is certainly very chill at both Havasu Springs and the Islander, but I have been curious of trying Site six and launching from there. Not here to brag but the wife and I have a great system when we launch. She backs the trailer down and I take the boat and we are generally done launching or loading the boat back on the trailer in about 3 minutes. I was curious what's peoples thoughts were about trying to launch at site six. Weekends vs weekdays, what are the lines like to launch, and how is parking? Also is the ramp pretty slick and hard to get the boat back out? We have a Chevy Silverado 2Wd and the boat is a 2004 Eliminator 250 eagle xp. Thanks to all who take the time to respond.

I have launched there all year so far. I have been going there so my son doesn’t have to pay to launch his boat. Just avoid it on the holiday weekends

Have not used in years but the ramp was short and a long trailer would fall off the end of the concrete. Smaller boats were not an issue. And ya ramp can be slick.

I wouldn't recommend it with 2wd
We go there in a pinch, my truck is 2wd with AT tires and a decent limited slip.
Cant retrieve the boat without 4 or 5 people in the bed and its still a struggle

Ramp can get wet and slick in the afternoons.

I’ve watched guys light up tires but a lot of that could be driver error.

The caliber of people are what you would expect at the only free ramp in town.

People will crowd the entry sometimes (there’s always “that guy” at any ramp anyways).

Sea wall on the left as you approach ramp. Right side is bushes.

If you and you’re wife have the system down you should be fine.

Ramp is steep and slick after multiple uses. I think your size boat would be fine, but you'll need some weight in the back of the truck. Stay away on busy weekends. Most of the time I have seen it there was no line, no issues parking.

What Mandy said but I needed ( had) 4x4 to pull my 28 heat out

Wife and I have the same system and it works well.

I’ve had no problems pulling out our Laveycraft there with an Expedition or our X5. The line can suck, but it sucks at the Marina (when there is one) also. People who know what they’re doing usually don’t have any problems.

But Range Rovers with Lake Lice sure do.

One thing to think about is that site 6 is narrow. I dont doubt you ability, but with the taper the ramp has and only being 3 lanes wide all it takes is one guy to get crossed up and it turns into a cluster

When we first moved here we didn't have a truck to launch the boat
Went to site 6 with our 35' rv to launch our 25' boat and then parked across the street in the old landing strip
Of course I was a lot younger and more stupid back then but it worked just fine lol

I would go there when you get a chance, untie transom but not bow o_O- - - have your wife do this:D > drive the loop to launch, back it in and let it float a little..... pull it out. If you have a few friends for truck bed weight :eek: .... bring them just in case:(. This way, if somewhat crowded, you simply dip and run and you now know if it will handle it ;)

EDIT : as she approaches the ramp after the loop, note the pretty colored pole that is slightly bent at end of loop on left at the ramp..... those pretty colors are from trailers kissing it.... ;););)

I have a 25' Eagle also. We had a tough time getting the boat all the way up on the trailer. Came up about 6" short from being all the way winched. Sat on the trailer that way until the next trip where we launched at the marina.

This use to be the greatest show on earth until Havasu cops shut it down just like they do all fun things on the lake

Help me out here people, but it seems people have their trailers way to deep to get the boat on the bunks and the boat is floating all over the place.

And my buzzed friend added to that colorful pole with my fender the first and only time we launched there.

Pay the $20 and use the Marina. If you are going early, mid-week Site 6 is fine, but not worth the trouble on the weekends.

Becuase of the videos I have seen I will not try it if we ever have a boat and it’s 2wd. The amount of trouble people have and the BS of the crowd would not be worth it. In fact I am rethinking my truck from a 2wd to 4wd. Damn I wish I had the foresight when we bought my truck in 2013. :cussing:

I once pulled my 28’ boat up the site 6 ramp, with a tow strap behind the trailer hooked to a 2wd F250 AND his boat lol. He was totally stuck. Yanked him right up like a locomotive pulling a train. Crowd went wild! The 4wd Cummins on 35’s was king for the day

Like others have said, try it during the week and see how it goes. It is damn slippery. You can barely walk on it. I needed people on the bumper of my 2wd Tundra with AT to get it out. The next day I aired my tires down 15psi and it was fine. (23 ft Cobra) Weekends it’s just the drunk idiots with rented or cheap boats that don’t give a fuck about their boat, let alone yours.

On flat ground while bunks are still wet hit the brakes "hard" it'll slide righ up, then snug up winch.
Have done it many times after loading on some steep Ramps like the Delta levees.

I have a pass at Windsor so that’s what we mainly use. I have punched my 21 & 27 at site six with no problems with a 2WD

Most times were doing the topock night runs though and the ramp was dry. I have done it once with the ramp being wet and as others have said it’s slippery and you have to be pretty good on the brake / throttle program to get the boat out.

I have never launched there, but have seem many videos showing people having trouble with traction pulling the boat out.

I have never had to use 4WD to pull my boat at one ramp in launch at. I was ready to pull the trigger on a 2WD on a Monday. OnSunday, I could not get my boat out without 4WD. I tried every trick to pull it out in 2WD, and couldn't get traction. So after never having to use 4WD in the past, I had to that day...at a ramp I launch at all the time.

I was up in the air about the 2WD truck, but that convinced me not to buy the truck and get a 4WD one.

I’ve launched there multiple times with our 24’. It’s a Cheetah tunnel so I need to get a bit deeper for the bunks. Never had the trailer run off the end of the ramp.
Both trucks used were 2wd. Toyota Sequoia and an Escalade. Know how to power brake out of there. I have never had to have people jump on the back or spun tires all the way up the ramp.
I’ve even launched and retrieved on holiday weekends. That crowd is not hostile and will give you a “good job” if they see you know what to do.

You should be fine. My favorite time at site 6 included a huge Bayliner coming in hot, hitting the front of the trailer, and jettisoning fiberglass shrapnel at me, my boat, and my truck. Found pieces of their boat during wipe down. It was awesome.

“His boat had a bad alternator and low voltage caused that incident” .... lol

That was the story being passed around by the #fakenews

Strangely that is actually the truth. Low voltage caused a efi malfunction.

The boat went to Barrett after the incident and that was straight from AJ to me. Said he had never seen anything like it before

How can low voltage open a manually operated throttle body? I dont think the IAC valve is capable of flowing enough air to get a boat on plane under load! I’d seriously like to pick Barrett’s brain about that cause it just seems insane. Not saying he’s wrong but I can’t wrap my head around it!

Some of the TB systems (555 Smartcraft?) are fly by wire.

I heard in the old days some bystanders used to pour liquid dish soap on the ramp when no one was looking. Turned the whole ramp into a shit show.

You couldn't pay me to launch at site 6!! No way... pay the $25 at the marina and plan around the busy launch times...

While I have successfully launched there, it was sketchy as hell... and I'm a pro at launching and retrieving... (if I do say so myself) ;)
