Question about my block

I have a blown SBC with a bowtie block. It has an -an fitting on the front of the motor above the timing chain and I don't know what it does. I found a picture of the same block on ebay and it looks like it threads into a casting that runs down the middle of the lifter valley.

Can you tell me what it does?

possibly an oil scavenge line going to either the pan or dry sump pump

That's what I was thinking. I just spoke to the original builder and he said that's where they pressurized the oil system. It then goes out the motor at the factory oil filter location, thru an an external oil filter and back into the motor.

My biggest concern is making sure this motor is plumbed correctly
