Anyone ever stayed there? We booked a room for Friday as my 16 yr old is fascinated with paranormal stuff. Recomendations on tours?

the haunted tour is more "hollywood" than paranormal... but it does take you into some cool areas of the ship that you normally wont get to see... the pool, the engine rooms, hell at one point you're at the bottom of the keel. im fascinated by old technology so i thought it was cool to see the prop shafts, etc. the boilers have been removed during decommision but theres still plenty there to stare at in the GIANT engine rooms.

be prepared for a cramped stay... rooms of that era werent like todays cruises.

We saw alot of the stuff for Haloween, do you see more on a tour or should we just hit the walls a few times to scare her?

All the tours are about the same. Come back in october when the CSULB kids take it over and do there version of a halloween haunt. 7 diff haunted mazes last year. All of which go through the popular haunted sections.

i work right off of pine... theres a "passport" free tram that can take you to pine or belmont shores. on pine theres some good places to eat like kings, la creperie, etc. if you head over to belmont shores theres the usual lucilles bbq, and def make sure you check out "open sesame." its awesome, but its a busy area especially at night. theres not much to do over there by the queen mary itself.

We stayed at the QM a few years back. Slightly better than motel 6 except it smells old. I wouldn't go out of my way to stay there again, it really was not that big of a deal. I'd much rather stay at the hyatt across the bay

Belmont reminds me of a mini West Hollywood. We used to go to Kellys, but their food took a turn for the worse.

So, for 2 bills a night, it's not a good thing? Like I said, we are only going for that paranormal crap for the kid.

never been, ive honestly never even noticed it was there until now... maybe because it looks like a super bowl party bar with neon lights more than a restaurant.

Agreed about Belmont Shore...I live there.
There's a lot of shops and restaurants on 2nd Street.
Many are locally owned :thumbsup
It's not as "flamboyantly gay" as West Hollywood, and the only gay bar around there is two blocks off 2nd Street.

Pine is "OK"
Sorta touristy, mostly chain-type places. Noting wrong with that, just not my cup of tea.

X2 on the Aquarium, it's pretty cool, even for adults.

So, from what I'm reading, it's kind of a waste of $ to stay at the Queen Mary since we live in HB and can eat in Belmont or LB whenever we want to?
It sounds like the QM really isnt that big of a thrill.

You live in HB? Yeah, save your money.
I wouldn't stay at the QM...it's a dive.

Fun to visit for that paranormal tour, especially if you can talk to an old-timer and get the *real* ghost stories.

I stay there a every so often and have a good time.

1. Pine St.
2. Second St
3. Catalina Cruiser for a short trip

The Brunch on Sunday morning at the Queen Mary is a solid 10 and is in one of the old main ballrooms. Something to see and the food again is way over the top!

The wife just stayed at the AVIA last weekend and went out to a nice dinner and sat out and enjoyed the roof top bar and pool.

Pronstar and chipster27 talk about this place all the time. Pronstar likes it so much he moved 6 houses away in an attempt to reel in drunkin stragglers for good times.

Go on the submarine while your there. Interesting to see the living conditions of the Russian seamen of that era.

I was there in October. Didn't stay the night on the boat. I was about 10:00pm on a hazy night and I walked to the bow, to the stern, and up to the bridge & smoke stacks. It was kind of eerie with the cold, light fog, and I never saw another person. Took some crappy cell phone pics. My wife thinks she sees some sort of ghostly being in the pic down the deck. LOL.
