Influx of californians...come on. That road has boaters from Phoenix and all over the place. Look at the out of state plates, not just California. If the accident is north of the airport is it a influx of Nevada?
What about the snowbirds, worst driving problem in town year after year.
What about the shit drivers that actually live in havasu, no shortage of those.

It's not a 'tourist' by state problem. It's just a busy town now. You can always move somewhere less fun.

Full disclosure I recently got a speeding ticket passing the human bean. 9 at night after driving 80mph for 5 hours. I slowed in that area but was still doing 10 over. Now I'm that asshole Californian doing 59 in 55 right there

The entire town was build and exist on bringing people in. It's real successful at doing it.
Drop the speed limit and enforce it. Problem solved.

Two British nationals crossed the centerline. No one will ever know why.

In the late 70's, my parents had left for a grand tour of the USA, towing their Airstream Trailer behind a F250. That afternoon of day # 1, they were proceeding on route 66 between Valentine and Truxton AZ, there was a line of cars heading west approaching them. Just as they started going passed this line, when suddenly from the middle of this pack, a passenger car swerves head-on into their lane. Dad quickly swerved right onto the shoulder but was prevented from going further due to an immediate drop off into a steep ravine. This action caused the car to miss the truck, but went head on into the trailer. Split it in half, killing all six Asian occupants of the car.
The official findings concluded that the driver had fallen asleep while driving into the late afternoon sun.
The trailer after being hit started to roll over and down the ravine, taking the truck with it. Truck went up on two wheels, then dad heard a loud pop and the truck, although yanked hard until the safety chain broke, was finally stopped safely and mom and dad were spared any initial injuries.
As it turns out, what dad discovered after the fact was, a mistake had more than likely saved their lives.
Dad had made it a practice of stuffing a grease soaked rag up into the trailer's hitch coupler to prevent it from rusting. On this trip, he'd forgotten to remove it, he thinks this mistake prevented it from fully grasping the ball, allowing it to more easily break free as it began to roll.

Several Indians helped them gather up any personal items from the trailer remains and scattered along the banks of the ravine.
They returned home the next day. Several days later dad ended up in the hospital from essentially a delayed nervous breakdown when his mind started playing a loop of the accident and it's aftermath.
This man had been towing since the late 1930's, never towed again. They ended up purchasing a crank-up Alaskan Camper instead and were content with camping at various California lakes.
I keep that in mind when traveling 2 lane roads.

This Havasu accident could easily be gawking or sleeping.

Wasn't that actually highway 666 back then?
That Road was deemed Devils highway because it was such a slaughterhouse.
2 lane Highway, blind curves.
Gawd I hated driving that road on our way to Durango to Ski Purgatory.
It was really bad going through the Jicarilla Apache reservation. There was a bar on the res border, and it sometimes required taking evasive action.

Do you remember the double blind curve that elevated through a butte about the halfway point of the res? The highway was flat for miles before and after the big sandstone feature. Right after school let out in late May, Craig Kemper and I drove his sister Kelly to a summer camp in Durango. We were driving his mom's almost new Sedan de Ville, and I took the wheel on the way back. Craig and I had partied the night before, and he was laid out in the back seat sleeping.

I had the Caddy cranked up close to a hundy as we approached the aforementioned butte. When I crested the hill on the back side, much to my surprise, there were six or seven horses crossing the highway and covering both lanes.

I took the big boat off the road and into the desert to miss the horses, and that's when Craig's head popped up and he let out a half yell and half scream. I gathered it up and got back on the highway, and he was flipping out, "What the hell are you doing?"

It was damned funny.

IMHO, 2 lanes is one too little for the growth in the area. I know 100 percent that the 95 from Needles through Bullhead is maxed out. Neither of these 2 towns were built for this many people.

I know the exact location you're referencing...
It's affectionately called the Devils elbow.
You're running thru flat land for miles on the res doing 90 or so and suddenly that friggin double blind curve comes up...running that area in the dark is a nightmare.
Didn't know you ran around w/Kemper.
Ironically I saw his sister Kelly you referenced at the gym the other day.
Back in the high school days when Vans's were the shit Kemper's 'Dark side of the moon' painted van was second only to Don Hastings blown 'Iron Butterfly' in media coverage...

Craig's van was an ex-Bell System work vehicle. It had a jillion miles on it, and a 240 CI six with three on the tree. I helped him install the shag carpet interior.

The guy that painted it did a great job. It looked cool. I wanna say he paid the man $700, but I'm not sure.

Came into Havasu Thursday evening and was stopped in traffic for 20 minute. Saw 2 flatbed tow trucks and a wheel lift when I went by very sad to see didn’t know how bad it was. Very sad to hear. RIP
