This old outboard I bought has a banged up prop. Thinking it maybe beyond repair. Any opinions on if it’s repairable?

Hill did a great job for me on my BIII props. The one time I let me buddy drive who supposedly knows Parker better than anyone LOL

I would go to liberty props in havasu, I had one I thought was done and they fixed it
I had one of my Mercury racing cleavers get sand pits from that shallow shoal entering the Channel, prior to the dredging.

Got pushed over by a guy crowding the opposite direction.

Anyway, took it to Liberty. It “looked” great but I wound up throwing an ear for no apparent reason at 3100 RPM.

My belief is they likely overheated it when repairing it. 5600.00 later…

Repairable? yes but weaker if it needs welding or heat
It's been through a lot
How much for a new one compared to one that might turn out ok?

That’s a good point.

Putting a little bigger motor on an older pontoon. Have no clue what it needs for prop. If I repair this one, will have something of a baseline to work with. Hopefully at a reasonable cost.

anything is repairable, but they can get weak with too much heat. how much is new one, and maybe have repaired for a spare or hang on the wall.

Does this prop have a plastic hub or is it possible that the hub spins in the prop at higher rpm’s/speeds? My trim is not currently working so that could be part of the issue. But I think the motor trim is locked in at a pretty good setting. Feels like prop starts spinning on hub at about 15 mph or 3,000 rpm. 25’ pontoon with old 150 merc xr2.

Seen some props have a plastic hub piece. Not sure if this one does.

That looks like the brass (or whatever alloy) flo-torque hub that’s pretty standard with Mercs. I think it’s supposed to break itself before damaging the prop. Knock it out and check it, if it’s still in one piece then that’s not the issue.

If it feels like it free spins, it could be cavitation (or aeration from something else).

That is going to be the pressed in style hub that is usually best left for a prop repair shop to handle.

To test for a spinning hub, mark the hub to the prop with a line and go for a run, if the line moves, it’s spinning.

Dropped the motor trim one notch and marked the hub and prop. Today was better and hub prop didn’t slip. Guess I need to fix the trim.
