Just got a new boat and need help...this is my first I/O boat.

Boat is a 250 eagle eliminator with 454 mag.

Right now it has a 24pitch prop and getting on plane it slips and the rpms spike before it levels out. Does it need a different prop, size, brand, jet drive haha..

When you get on plane are you just hammering the throttle? Working the throttle works best in most cases. Full throttle just until it blows the prop out then back off.

Sounds more like a hub issue then the prop.

Once I?m on plane there is no issues at all, runs strong no slipping. Every time I?m going from a dead stop I hit about 3000rpm and it starts spiking or slipping before it gets on plane.

Try giving less throttle and see if you can keep the prop blowout to a minimum.

My boat did the same thing with a B1 22, and a B1 24 pitch prop solved the problem. I'd try a REV 23 or a Bravo 25 or 26 and see what happens.

Did you notice much difference with a bigger prop? Sorry for all the newbie questions. How do you know if you need a bigger prop?

24 B1 should be good for that set up.....try easing into it, rather than hammering the throttle.

4 blade prop description is a little vague. Brand pitch and diameter are all required to help us give you an assessment. Also what is the drive trim set to when coming on plane? Is the drive set at stock height or elevated?

A Rev 4 would likely eliminate any slipping issue out of the hole if that truly is the issue.

Are you trimming all the way down? Hard to believe a 454 is blowing out a 24 B-1.

Is the boat the double step bottom? Or is iit the old straight bottom? If it's stepped then the prop is ventilating and that's normal coming on plane. They aren't going to rip on plane like a straight bottom.. half throttle and then "feather" (be gentle) with it until it rolls over and everything hooks up again. If it's the straight bottom then you likely have some prop someone modified. A larger diameter prop like a revolution will help with that some, and will lift the boat more out of the water. I'd try a 23 revolution or a stick 24 bravo and stick with something similar to that. You could try an FS Bravo just to try it, but I think a stock 23 revolution will probably end up being the money shot on that boat.

I wanna see pics of the boat!
I've been looking at getting an older 250 Eagle. I really like the look of them but you don't see a ton of them out there.

It?s the double step bottom, I need to find the brand/exact specs on the props I have

Nice! Saw that one listed for a while and even texted the guy a couple times. Seemed like a good deal at what it was listed for and if he came down any since it was listed so long, even better!

Yeah definitely got a great deal in my opinion, just had it serviced and everything was in good shape.

Its also one of the boats that I'm considering, how does it handle the rougher water?

I have only had it during the winter when the lake was nice and smooth. Desert storm will be the first big weekend with the boat.

I have the same bottom in the 236 and I'm very pleased with it, but rough water would not be it's strongest point. Fast bottom, good handling, no surprises, also wide beam keeps it level with uneven loads are strong points. If you're coming from an average 21' to 23' it's a nice improvement, but probably not as good in the rough as some of the larger more aggressive 25' V's. If I keep trimmed down I can handle most weekends, but we live here, so do most boating on weekdays.:D

I'm coming from a Checkmate Maxxum 229 which is almost 23 ft, but has a deep V, 22 degree I think. I know the Eliminators are fast, but I'm willing to compromise some speed for ride. I know that tabs help also. I am planning on coming out there in April to see as many boats as I can to make a decision. Thanks for the great info. Cheers!
