I can't think of one thing- person, people or community of people that have been more supportive to Amy and I through our journey than RDP. Over the years it's given us a place to share and grow with such positive feedback that we've been able to overcome some pretty big disasters. I thrive on positive energy and this place has given me that by the truckload.

As the "Off The Grid" thread eventually turned into a farming enterprise, we've had the opportunity to meet hundreds of RDP members that jumped in to support us (and continue to do so). Many have turned into solid friends that visit our place and some for extended visits bringing kids and RV's.

Dave and Stacy were the first ones to enthusiastically show us support, the community jumped in the minute I started posting our journey. The kind words, handshakes, business support, texts, emails, and PM's over the years from this group are all responsible for making this video possible.

We were approached by a production company with a successful YouTube channel a couple of years ago. They found us online using the search phrase, "Arizona permaculture". That took them to our website followed by a call to discuss their motives.

We provide the content; they cover all production expenses. We get some neat marketing material and the opportunity to have a professional tell our story and they benefit from the views and ad income. We had final say on the edit- but honestly, we didn't change a thing.

It was a great experience but one and done for us. We are way more comfortable behind a keyboard than a camera. We wish PARAGRAPHIC every success as they are working hard to put up professional quality, meaningful content. Please share the video with friends if you like it!

Your thread detailing your journey was one of the reasons we pulled the trigger and decided to ranch through our retirement. Love everything about what you and your wife have built, amazing! There are many ways to live off the land, but yours sure adds the health benefits to go with it. I am amazed at what you are accomplishing with 50 acres, very well done.

The people and things we learn on RDP! Many are living vicariously through you as we've seen what you've done on your land.

Great read:

Awesome !

Thank you for sharing. Great lesson here is that even if you don't take it to this level you CAN change your life by changing
what you eat.

Congrats to you and your family on what you have created.

Absolutely fantastic documentary on your farm. Really got lucky being able to film on a monsoon day as well.

Speechless, they did a fantastic job on this and I'm glad you agreed to let them do it, gives the rest of us in the rat race a little taste of your paradise. 🤙🤙🇺🇲🇺🇲

Great video and inspiring story. I have been trying to do the same thing but on a much smaller scale (only 5 acres). I just want to be self-sufficient and don't need to sell to others. It's fantastic that your wife and family are on board and you have that support system. I'm doing it all on my own so it is a bit tougher. I'm going to save this video as motivation when I start to slack. 👍

As always Joel you guys are an inspiration to most everyone.
I grew up in small town Tennessee on about 70 acres and our garden was about the size of a football field. Clearly remember working in it everyday with my parents and siblings to keep it producing.
Again thank you for taking us along on the journey...very inspirational.

On occasion we have socal fellas picking up meat with enough room to haul another 1/4 back with them. Amy pics up a decent quality cooler from Costco or Wal-Mart and adds it to your bill ($60-70) and we pre-pack everything in it so your RDP express driver does nothing more than meet at a predetermined location that works for you both. There's always a way!

Joel,

I've thoroughly enjoyed reading about your story and progress through the years. I really think you're living a lot of people's dreams. Dreams that many of us are too scared to try. I had a chance yesterday to watch the video on YouTube and I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of video and the way you told your story. I'm looking forward to continuing to see you succeed and wish you and the family all the best! Let us know when the shirts become available I'd like to support your efforts.

Amazing Joel & Amy 😍 Truly Amazing and yet that even those words seems woefully inadequate. 👏

Owning similar property not all that far from yours, I have a fairly good inkling of at least a fraction of the incredible effort this remarkable transformation required.
It's far more that the "What", it's the "Where" you were able to accomplish it, that makes your story all that much more incredible.

I just shared your website link and this truly entertaining documentary with my fellow SVR ranch owners on our private group FB page and I know, like me, they're going to love it.

Well Done, Bravo and All the Best to you and yours

Very cool piece to go along with the thread.

For someone that doesn't like being on camera I would say you are a natural story teller and it comes extremely natural.

Would love to head that way and camp/help out when you have a big project on the books. I think this could be a great opportunity to show teenagers what real hard work is and get them off the grid for a while while learning how to use there hands.

Bravo such a cool story.

I am in the same boat with similar land near by. In fact our land looks much like Joey and Amy’s in the video. One discussion that I had with the wife over the weekend was to start looking into putting in a well on our property. That was one of the things that really kept us from considering living on the land. The way things are going in society is making me like the idea a little more each year.
