Holy shit on a stick. Was thinking about another poodle mix to keep Charley company. One place called me back about a pup I liked. On Sale he said. 4500.00 I told him I wasn’t looking to buy a car. Another ad had mini Aussie doodles. Very cute pups. Wanted 650 offered 500. Nope and just texted me back, last one just sold. Been looking at the shelter dogs but nothing blows my skirt up. Really want a poodle mix because that’s what our last 3 were and the no shedding thing is important. Not a need just a want. Probably don’t need to even think about it but dogs are such good companions at this stage in my life.

You need a companion. I'm sorry the house seems silent and empty, it must be hard.

A puppy will help. If you can make the budget work, it'll be a joy and make you happy. I hope you can swing it.

Bought ours off Craigslist during the lock down for my daughters 3rd birthday. Not recommended lol. Dog is awesome but probably should have died. We got her weeks before she was ready, worms as well. Supposed to have been dewormed and shots but they were scammers. Ended looking them up with the phone number and she was an escort 😂. Times must have been hard for the escort industry at that time.

We just got a rescue from a local shelter. He is fixed, shots, and chipped for cheap. ($150) I think he is part shark!

I have three pups. One Texas Heeler...Australian Shepherd-Australian Cattle Dog mix. One American Bully XL and one mix pup.

Paid not one dime for any of them. A Bully XL like I ended up with can go for thousands.

You can go on a waiting list at a shelter for a breed you might have interest in.

Too many needy pups to be adopted

Check that Next Door app. Always pups on there up for adoption

We’ve had 3 dogs. Each lived until they were about 12. The first was totally free. A lost, young pure bred Bassett Hound. Posted signs etc. He stayed with us, great dog. Next was a shelter rescue, pure bred Golden Retriever. Total cost at the Ventura County Animal Shelter, about $70. 4 days after having to put down our GR, we purchased our Newfoundland from a breeder. $1200. Looking back on it, I would now very willing pay twice that for each of those dogs. As previously posted, dogs are good.

I did pay for one hybrid and it was a golden doodle. It was a wedding present for my soon to be wife.

EDITED...yes a hybrid not a purebred. For the cost I should have got one pure poodle and one pure golden retriever. Lol

Have been looking at shelter pups. Really want something about Charley’s size 22 lbs because living in motorhome part of the year. At home no big deal with 4 fenced acres, but has to be compatible to Charley and that can be hard. Still looking but not real seriously because I really don’t need another dog, just would like to have a companion for Charley. We have always had 2 dogs and they always got along with one always being the alpha which can get interesting. Like Tom’s dogs lol. Also don’t want a shark in the motorhome. Charley doesn’t tear up anything and I can leave him for 4 hours or more if necessary which is not often, without issues. If I was staying at home not traveling, it wouldn’t matter the size.

We've always got all our dogs from the SPCA or a rescue. We haven't paid over $300 and that includes a free spay or neuter.

A purebred Golden Doodle?
Yes. Very expensive.

I get it....there were papers of some sort with the pup and it was absolutely beautiful.

Lets just call it a hybrid then. I cant remember the F rating

We really owe it to them to rescue them from a shelter. Plus, mutts tend to be the best dogs... I work and travel so much right now that it would be unfair of me to get another dog. But it kills me not to have a dog, I'm a great dog owner too.. Ugh... I'd love to rescue an old dog that no one wants and spoil the shit out of him.

We lost our Lab/Dane mix in March and our pointer has been struggling without her buddy. Picked this girl out at a rescue in Golden Valley. Another Dane mix. 5 months old. $400 + cost to spay. We bring her home in about 10 days after surgery

We're right in the middle of submitting applications to 2 different shelters, looking for a Chocolate Lab. The minute pups in shelters hit social media there's 100s of apps for adoption, we've been striking out on the last 4 dogs. Today was the closest we got at #3 in line for a Chocolate stray 2 month old in Apple Valley. Our last rescue Lab lived to 18, my boys are dying for another pup but I'm not spending 5k to breeder who's only in it for the $$.

Ive been looking for either a Pit bull or an American Bully dog (fairly new breed) as Ive had them before and if raised properly, they are fantastic family pets and I like their looks. But alas my wife is against getting another dog or any breed because of our ages, and the fact that Havasu is so ungodly hot in the summer that they have to be an inside animal and shes not bying that :(

Last year we got a 1 year old black female lab from ‘Lab Rescuers’ in San Diego…. Had to go through the whole ‘process’ of applying etc.
It was all foreign to me since I’ve never had to ‘buy’ a dog , they’ve always given to me.
When all was said & done, I think she cost us $700…. which at the time I thought was a shit ton. But after factoring everything all the costs the rescue org. has to incur … not to mention the price of lab pups, I guess it’s fair.

You’ll find the right one at the right time …. Just let it happen and don’t force it …. They usually seem to work out best that way.

The Winchester Swapmeet always has tons of different dogs. And most if not all are free. Last time we went they had a few poodle mixes.

We were on the Navajo rez and this guy kept coming by begging. Super gentle, polite and a really a cool self sustaining pooch. I was inches from tossing him in the truck. I figured he’d make a neat dog seeing he was pretty much out there living on his own

I've been doing a little research on dog breeds. According to Vets and Vet techs Frenchies are overrated as pets. Yeah I know, they're funny and cute. But what you really need is a scrappy mutt..

Btw, I'm happy all these trendy dogs are really expensive. That's how it should be, and rescues should be free.. That way more people would choose to save a life rather then buy an expensive dog.

Please get one from a shelter. My wife volunteers at the shelter. I know you do not want a pit, but if anyone does, my wife said the shelter are full of them. I am assuming it would be the same out there.

Holly is out 6th rescue over 28 yrs.

My sister had two but didn't pay for them. Some rich couple had them and didn't want them anymore. I know they paid a lot of money for them. They were a pain in the ass for sure but part of the family non the less.

Weimaraner’s run $1500-3000. Mine are in the 2k range.

When you’re talking about being selective with breeders, it’s worth paying more if you can assure their genetics are good. And really what you’re talking about is health genetic issues that run in the blood line. It’s heartbreaking to be six or seven years into their lives and have some catastrophic health event that kills them but also cost you 5 to $10,000 to try to keep them alive.
Still there’s no guarantee

They are family to us

Love cats, hate cat boxes...

I had a Calico cat years ago. (they're all female btw).. She was a killer, mice, rats, sadly birds, you name it. Just a month ago on my Ring camera I noticed the neighbor Calico stroll into my back yard, she caught a big rat that's been hanging out in my lemon tree, she then proceeded to rip the head off of it.. It was gruesome, blood everywhere.. lol

Cats are natural born killers and clean as can be. What else could be better as a pet??

And I'll take cleaning a cat box, over picking up dog shit, pretty much any ol time! 🤣

Nothing like a cat shitting and pissing in a litter box then hopping up on the kitchen counter walking around. 🤮

Ps: I hate cats.

Just as an suggestion to note, another honorable thing one ought to consider doing when shopping for more time-consuming type puppies' "hair (coat) wise" would be checking in with their regular dog groomers to see if they are willing or able to take on additional clients of that category... A lot of smaller dog service shops can be booked up or out and unable to fit them in depending on their overall / overhead capacities.

Two dogs is more than enough poop for any back yard.

Every dog should have a backup buddy. 😉
