If you have ever been charged by a griz the preferred option is a 16" gun from the Missouri, You can keep your Semi auto hand guns and bear spray.

4570 Lever with HSM bear loads or Benelli M4 with hard cast slugs or a 454 Casual

My father-in-law worked on the Alaska pipeline when it was being built. He had some kind of minor injury, so he went to the clinic to get fixed up. While he was waiting his turn, a guy was brought in who had been attacked by a bear, and had killed it with his knife. He said the guy was pretty badly injured, but he survived.

Big knife?

Interesting comparison between the Casual and a 12 gauge with a 1 oz. slug. Surprisingly similar in terms of grain weight and velocity. Not that you’d ever be in a position to whip out a shotgun quickly (in a bear attack), I’d give the 10 round auto loading Kalashnikov shotgun the lead in terms of just being fun to shoot.

12 gauge slugs were my choice for over 2 decades.
I alternated 00 and slugs in my mossberg.
I told the story here before about killing a grizzly with that mossberg near Tokatna.
Fucking troopers wanted to cite me for a defensive shoot.
My coworker was this big black dude, good friend of mine. We did all kinds of remote assignments in interior and coastal Alaska, months at a time.
The day that happened was when I knew it was extremely possible that Jesus was Black, because I saw a black man run right across a large creek without getting wet above the ankles! Lol

HOLY FUCK

Did anyone see the POS lady from AZGF crying about the bear being killed. She actually said I don’t mean to belittle the man that was killed but…boo hoo boo hoo.

Just aired on the news in Phx She should be skewered

When hiking in the San Bernardino or San Gabriel Mountains I always carry Bear Spray. I sometimes get bizarre comments from other hikers as to why I’m carrying Bear Spray in Black Bear Country. They’re harmless most say, lol. Yeah Right!!!

I wonder about the many hikers that disappear every year and are never found are actually victims of being consumed by a bear and never discovered?

I’m gonna get me some of these to reload for 10mm they have a 140 and 185 I think. I know my max loads to should make a great outdoors load in my 10mm. Underwood also sells them loaded

Lol but they have some serious penetration all copper round. So far the test over last couple years have been positive but yeh if in a pinch doubles as large Phillips 😱

Guaranteed to unscrew some screwed up situations. 👍

I always heard that FMJ was the best load for bears due to their heavy fat layer?
Just depends on what you're starting with. Hydrostatic shock is where it's at. 10mm gets the job done.

Mountain biking, I have come across bears , mountain lions, rattlesnakes ,Bob cats .
In the San Gabriel mts

But one time , I went around a corner and there were two bears on the trail . Bear bell didn’t faze the bears . About 15 feet away . I had no place to go . I’m not going back up and turning my back.
As I stood contemplating my situation
I backed up slowly held my bike over my head
One bear scampered off. The other stood up looked at me , gave me a wink . Went back down on all fours . And followed the other bear

Got on my bike and pr that trail .

On a serious not , those bears see bikers all the time . As some have taken pictures of both bears walking around our jump trail .

It’s the deer, that dart in front of me that scare the shot out of me.
