So I’m redoing the front yard and installing some retaining walls. My gas and water lines need to be redone for the walls. I want to prep for a pool I plan to install next year with @Melloyellovector

Since I have to redo the gas line I was planning to put a 2” poly line in and tee off 1-1” for the house and one 1” for around the side for the pool. I was also going to run a 3/4 or 1” water line for where the pool equipment will go.

My panel is next to where the equipment is and I just put a 225A panel in. Am I missing anything in my prep work? Is a 2” gas line overkill or is that what’s needed? I want a pool heater and spa and already have all gas appliances and a tankless water heater so demand can be somewhat high down the road.

I had to upgrade my meter box when I put my pool in, the original one wouldn't flow enough gas. Cost about a grand, but no new line from the street.

Gas line for fire pit, BBQ Island, fire features for your new pool. Make sure you run large enough gas line to accommodate.

Check to see if your gas meter is big enough or needs to be upsized as well. The houses I’ve built with pools often times the gas co required it Ripping out my own pool hopefully next week or so to put in an ADU attached to our rear garage, but you can see from the pic I had a 1-1/2” for the heater . Can’t say I’m sad to see it go 😂

1-1/2” just for the pool heater? What size was your main to the house?

It's 1-1/4 from the meter into the house before it splits down , but the pool heater was about 180' away and that's what size sweeps and line Ferguson had at the yard the day we did it so it never hurts to have that manifold of gas , plus we had other stuff teed off it. I just undid the union and capped all that off back by one of the FAU closets where it came out of the house from lol . Tankless water heaters in conjunction with multiple fau, stove, fireplace etc along with a big pool/ spa heater do add up though.

You have to do a calculation depends on the BTUs of your heater and other gas features going to use. We ended up bringing in a 2 inch line to my house from the meter area. That’s just for the outside not for the house itself.

Bringing in a 1 inch waterline is wise as you will have an automatic pool fill and make sure you install about a 1 foot whole house water filter for that pool fill so you duble filter all the water going into the pool. They’re inexpensive on eBay for like 50 bucks. think in advance of Fire features barbecues things of that sort you might use. It’s a one time job for that gas line. Not to mention the electricians gonna need probably a one and a half inch conduit for the electrical to be brought back. It’s always 220 but depends on how long the run is on the size of the wire, and therefore the size of the condo figure. It’s gonna be one and a half inch to play safe. In the house I just bought it. We’re doing a 90 foot run for two pumps for a water feature so I’m gonna use number eight wire and use one quarter inch conduit. Keep an eye on the sides of the panel for your main and also if you have a 100 amp panel you may have an issue if you’re gonna add solar I’ll guarantee you. You’re gonna have to upgrade to solar, it to a 200 amp panel.

1.5in to pool heater. Not 1in, to small
2in main
1.25 or 1.5 to feed house, it typically supplies stove oven water heater dryer
1.5 to pool
3/4 or 1 to firepit and or bbq

gas meter size most suppliers will upgrade meter for free, as they are billing you more gas every month.

Could I just run two 1.5” mains from the meter? Rather than a 2” and teeing it off near the house? I could run one to the side yard for future and one to the house.
The one for the pool can be tied in later in the meter box and tee’d together with the house.

Yes, up to about 160ft run ish with 1.5in for pool heater. 3/4 and 1in lines for future bbq or firepit can be tied into pool line if needed
