Sitting in the hospital with my dad (92 y/o) He tried to catch my mom who was falling and he went down too and broke his hip. They live in Redding and I am in St George. They were on the floor of their bathroom for 11 hours before they were found. He is by far the toughest man I have ever met but his heart is not in great shape. They are doing surgery this morning and are concerned that his heart may not be able to handle it. He talked with the Dr and knows what his chances and options are. Option one do nothing and lie in a bed until your time comes or fight and have surgery. He is a tough WWII navy vet and is going to do this his way.

Sounds like your dad is much like mine - stubborn! He’s on his second pacemaker and just had his first hip replacement replaced, also at 92.

Our thoughts and prayers for a full, quick recovery.

They could be brothers. My dad is on his second pacemaker too.

Prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. My dad broke his at about 85 and worked his ass off to get home to my mom . Open heart surgery at 88, but never could come back from that one and the lungs got him several months later.
Those guys were some tough dudes!

My grandmother is 90 years old. She fell and broke her hip last Monday. At the hospital Monday night, surgery w/ general anesthesia Wednesday, home by Saturday, and walking by Sunday. We were all afraid of the consequences of general anesthesia at her age. Modern medicine sure is amazing.

Hang in there!

I'm so glad to hear he is recovering.
This is one of my biggest fears. My MIL 98 lives with us and still gets around with her walker.
When the wife and I go out, even for a few hours it is always a thought when i walk in the door.

I hope she'll recover without any complications. Broken hips are really dangerous for the elderly. The can start a downward spiral.

At that age, the body is fragile. My buddy Marty, who was a Lieutenant in an engineer company in Europe from June 7, 1944 (landed on the beaches D+1) to July 22, 1945, was 94 and still driving. He went to work every day as a golf course first tee attendant.

Marty contracted a urinary tract infection, and it killed him. He was too stubborn to ask for help, and the infection overwhelmed his immune system.

That's why I worry about my 85 year old dad. He thinks he can do anything, and I'd hate to lose him after he decided to climb a ladder.
