On a non GDI engine...if anything was able to get dirty enough to cause a problem...something is wrong that caused that condition and it needs to be fixed. On a GDI engine...deposits that can literally clog up the ports in the head(s) are somewhat common.

Pouring in some sort of additive will not solve either condition...it might clean something that shouldn't have been dirty to begin with, but that's not addressing the root cause.

for the snake oil crowd......what's your take on this?

I ran across this guys YouTube channel, and he tests some cool stuff. And FYI he compared basic grease, to the Lucas red and tacky, and the Lucas stuff was better in all tests ;)

Look at the ingredients in SeaFoam It basically pale oil (oil refined until it's pale in color), Naptha (white gas or Coleman fuel) and Isopropyl alcohol. If you think that those things will help whatever ails your car then go for it.

Speaking of oil, I find it Very Odd that the Manufacturers of new Engines today say you only need to change the oil every 10K miles.
Oil gets dirty a lot sooner than that, I don't care if it is Synthetic or not, I still change engine oil at 3-4 K miles or 50-100 hours on a Vessel.
If I'm wasting money on oil, oh well the old dog can't change.
