My buddy moved to Utah and is a carrier . . . . he said they are so far behind on their union cotracts that he is owed over $12K . . . and counting.
They are so incredibly under staffed it's unbelievable . . . . amazon doesn't deliver in his area, so they do that. It's not uncommon for him to have over 250 scans in a day.
Even here in HB . . . they don't want to pay over time, so insted of calling in for more help, they're just letting the mail & packages stack up and delivering them the next day.

I had to send a certified letter yesterday . . . I went inside our local station and was #26 in line . . . there was only 1 clerk working.
The gal next to me in line said she showed up when they opened at 8:00 am and the line was worse, so she left.

That whole deal needs a big re-set.

The Postal Service is handcuffed. They were not allowed to cut costs by delivering less days per week, so they partnered with Amazon and started delivering on Sundays. Amazon started delivering their own packages in major metro areas…including Sundays. So the attempt to increase revenue went away for the most part and they still deliver Sundays. Delivering on Sundays also makes Mondays less profitable because there are less packages to help offset labor costs. Sundays are not profitable because they don’t deliver full routes it appears.

Their labor costs are fixed with contracts, so no opportunity to cut costs there. Can’t do a reduction in force….they already don’t have enough. The only solution is to raise rates, which makes people lose their mind.

The Postal Service should reduce delivery days to Monday thru Friday at the most to reduce costs.

There is no manner in which to maintain profitability in a service that is basically required to visit every single residence and business in the USA every single day without making the service cost prohibitive.

The only reason UPS and Fedex and the smaller carriers are profitable is because they skip 95% of the houses and businesses.

Maybe, if they got rid of Junk mail and went to delivery service every other day....they could pull it off as that would reduce the boots on the ground by at least 50% and allow those boots to skip lots of stops.

I agree. Prohibit marketing materials from using the USPS, reduce delivery to Mon, Wed, and Friday. Off days could be used to sort and organize deliveries and premium paid express deliveries (likely a hefty premium as well).

I was thinking more like some neighborhoods get odd days and others get even days, but there's a bunch of ways to skin the cat.

Paying someone to walk around house to house every single day dropping off junk mail is stupid.

Junk mail should be once a week or once every 2 weeks.

The thing about junk mail is that it brings in a steady source of revenue for USPS.
Even if 99% of it gets tossed in the trash, it still pays the same.
Fewer and fewer people are mailing letters / using stamps anymore.

UPS and Fedex are also prohibited by law from competeing in the first class mail arena.

People don't understand how much regulation there is in place to protect the usps monopoly on mail delivery

You know why Amazon rarely uses the Postal service for deliveries, even though they stop at every house and business?
Because they’re expensive, inefficient and unreliable.

Fuck, I'd pay a montly subscription to the USPS just to trash my junk mail so I don't have to see all that bullshit. Boom. Hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue right there.

Expensive? I shipped over 15,000 packages last year and 90% of them went USPS because they’re 1/2 the price or better and shit gets there faster than with UPS. FedEx can eat a dick so I’m not even discussing their “service”

Expensive when compared to Amazon delivering their own packages.
Or they would be using USPS exclusively.

My buddy who's a flight mechanic for FedEx said a while back that they had ended a contract (or portion of ) with USPS . . . so they offered the pilots and mechanics for those flights a buyout / early retirement.
FedEx has been trimming the fat for a while now and continue to.

I don’t think Amazon is unionized or has a pension for its employees. That is why they are so much cheaper - less overhead.
For years Amazon lost money on their delivery network, it was all supported by the profits from Amazon Web Services. Not sure about now.

They dumped billions in to it and go out of their way to keep any unions out of their operations.

Nailed it. I use USPS for 90% of my shipments. UPS has lost its fucking mind with pricing. And FedEx is an over priced dumpster fire. Knock on wood, I have had better reliability of service with USPS than any other carrier.

Well, the USPS doesn't have 50 other businesses with which to make money so they can take a loss on certain things. Maybe if we had USPS TV and USPS server farms, it would get even cheaper.

It’s not that the USPS can deliver cheaper, it’s just subsidized by taxpayers and as a result they charge less.

If we took the subsidies away, they too would be as expensive as fedex or ups.

Well, they sort of can deliver cheaper....since they're already stopping at every recipient location every day anyway, whereas the private carriers are not...everything (many things) are a special trip for them.

UPS has "partnered" with the USPS to take advantage of that lately....they call it UPS ground saver. UPS takes the package and gets it to the closest USPS post office to it's destination, then the USPS carrier delivers it on the final leg to it's destination. Price is comparable, sometimes a tick cheaper than the USPS ground advantage.

Stopping at every house is where the majority of the labor cost is....

Maybe the USPS should start a few streaming channels for an additional $5- 10 a month on Amazon Prime - like classic MTV and the original Man Show to show what a hypocrite Jimmy Kimmel really is. I’d watch both of those.

I’m fine with no EVs or windmills, solar doesn’t get you the deep discounts anymore. So why put money into it?

Totally agree. Never been for them.

Let’s get rid of them as well as oil and gas subsidies, farm subsidies, protectionist taxes and all the other silly subsidies and market manipulations by government where those that support them think that government is the solution.

It is not, it is the problem.

I have repeatedly stated Biden is as big of a moron as his predecessor. Yet people keep trying to argue that barely meeting the picks of Biden is winning.

Obviously I don’t get it while others cheer such failure. 🤷🤷

Yet, you were pushing for another 4 years of Biden/Harris/Walz? Knowing Biden is a moron?

Not sure what planet your on, or if your ever leave the secured/gated community, or how deep your head is in the sand, shits been bad and was only getting to the point of no return.

I know people like you… the second it effects them or their families, they quickly turn pro-Trump and start raising the American flag pretending they (you) weren’t part of the problem.

Your comments are interesting but not surprising.

I never pushed for Biden. I pushed for a conservative.

But conservatives lost the primary.

So we are where we are.

It’s just interesting to me how people believe if one is not on their team they are on the opposing team.

Nothing is further from the truth. But interesting none the less.

It is given a line item budget allocation of money each year to subsidize the costs of delivery that exceeds its revenue from deliveries.

90% of the money problems with the USPS is due to pensions and retiree health care prepayment

First off I am not backing USPS. My ol lady had to work 7 years part time to get a full time job. 16.00 an hour for 7 years and not 1 day went towards retirement. Part time workers get no benefits . Most of the benefits and perks were gone 2 years before she got full time and the retirement plan changed. She worked there full time for 20 years and gets 750.00 dollars a month so I think some of the money is going somewhere else cause she ain't gettin it.
