(Getting on plane, speed, breaking prop shafts) Are people still adding them and running them with great results any information would be awesome!!!!! Thanks Matt. P.S. Thinking of adding some to my 28SS Nordic.

Tons of guys out here at LOTO run them & absolutely swear by them. Joe Perog & his son won the outboard class last year in his 360 Performance Powerboats with Porta brackets & 450s

Mmmmmmm nice!!!!!! I took my 400Rs off and going to 450Rs might swap out my Bob's plates if they work that good!

I've heard it helps to fill the bottom of the bracket to assist with planing

I’m going to suggest adding the position sensor Scott Porta offers and the tab module from Mercury. I helped him work through adapting the Merc Bravo trim sensors to his brackets and I set the first ones up on Joe Perog’s 360 with 450R’s. This allows you to display position of the jackplates via tab output on your VesselView or Garmin.

We set them up so the zero on the gauge was with the engines at a specific height and this gives you a reference to get back to. Otherwise you are always guessing at propshaft height and these cats are too sensitive to not be accurate.

Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

You definitely need a good gauge setup.

Stainless Marine has mechanical indicators.

Bob’s now supports NMEA2000.

This seems like another good solution.

I've been in Joe's 36 several times & its over the top dialed in. His setup is PERFECT

Scott has raced his product on both V-bottoms and cats for many years. I run them on 5 boats currently and will continue to use them in the future. We run our stuff pretty hard and have never had a dependability issue. I highly recommend getting a gauge tied into your screen via nema for a reference point until you are comfortable enough to run it off of feel and water pressure. Gear case height on an outboard is the world and anyone who doesn't agree has not experienced the difference you can make with the touch of a button. I know of 6 cats that are in the process of adding Porta brackets and getting rid of the fixed STR brackets that they are currently running. I will add that these are not for everyone (you have to pay attention and be on your game when you bring a boat to the outer edge of its capability).

There is no fixed X dimension that works best in all water conditions just as there is no trim position that works best all water conditions-moving things around is how you extract the most out of your rig.
