I’m back in the game of building up a business, everyday I think of ways to create a better experience for my clients, provide more unique services, make situations of maximum mutual benefit for all parties involved. In my pea sized brain this is how you create good will, by providing valuable service that gives people a warm fuzzy feeling about being your client.

So tonight I came home and decided to watch a movie, pushed the Netflix button on the remote and found something interesting to watch. Next thing I know I’m being brow beaten with commercials about every 5-10 minutes. I’m pretty sure the last time I watched a movie on this streaming platform this was not the case, my wife told me that if we pay them more I can watch without commercials.

Mother fuckers are gonna try and hold me hostage by providing worse service knowingly and then offering to make it better for more money. Who ever is in charge over there is a fucking moron, Netflix will be like my space within a year from now if that’s there great plan LOL

I’m sure I’m just a minority in this thinking, maybe people will just bend over and take in the ass? I dont think I’ll ever push that Netflix button again, maybe I’ve seen enough movies at this point in my life, get off my lawn 😂

Why not focus on providing a better service that generates good will, vs. creating a leveraged type relationship with the customer?

I remember commercials on tv as a kid, then there was cable, you paid them and there were no commercials, now we pay to see commercials, or we pay more not to see commercials, I think I’m done paying for shitty businesses to come up with ways to be shittier businesses 🤷‍♂️

I have only ever had Amazon prime as a streaming option, and rarely watched anything, but I recently wanted to have a lazy night on the couch and experienced something similar with a barrage of advertisements. I cancelled my prime renewal. I almost cancelled my internet at the same time, but they offered me a 50% monthly discount for extending my contract for another year. $35/month for Frontier internet.

We pay LOTS around here for "connected services"... and still are forced to watch endless commercials.

It just reminds me we are the "worker bees" getting our honey squeezed out.

Netflix made $5.4 Billion last year on revenue of $33.7 Billion.

The middle class is the least respected class of the entire population. Society is set up to target the middle class because we pay the ticket, we pay the bills, we support the kids knocking at the door, we go to work day in and day out in some fashion. The poor are helped with programs the middle class pays for.

Were just getting started with the large company money grab. A little here and a little there and they are reporting Billions made while we say FU, I hate ??, etc but we like what we like and adjust our dollars to compensate so we can stick with our commercial free streaming service so we can finish the movie sooner. Then we can get on with other stuff or maybe sleep.

I have been using Amazon Prime for business past 5 years or so. At first they really tried but now its seems to be more the same...money grab with no real volume pricing any longer. Also Prime shipping 2 day is turning into a wild card. "Were sorry your package is running late" and "Wait three days and you can get a refund."

Interesting times.

That’s the truth, the big box stores are pushing it lately with there “Would you like to round up?”. How about would you like to round down and pick up the delta for whatever charity it is your so excited about me supporting you corporate whores 😂

Our city has a one cent sales tax’s on the ballet, the talking heads are all spitting out the same line of it’s just pennys and it will generate $20M for the city. If it’s just pennys why is it gonna cost me an extra $1000.00 for every $100k I spend in town now if this passes? They don’t appreciate it when you say it that way 😂

We do all right for ourselves, and by that I mean we keep the bill collectors at bay and are able to put a little away for unexpected expenses so we can keep the wheels on the bus another year. Honestly I have no idea how people survive and raise a family without decent careers/incomes.

I found out that the round up bullshit is for them to get a tax break every year from all of the "donations"! Fuck that!

Well said.

Evan and Kirstin both know and I preach it all the time....Income Income Income. Do well, become better educated than I, stay home while you do it so you don't add debt, and make sure your significant other is on the same track.

Riding the struggle bus just sucks. Average min. income needs to be 200K at this point.

Prime used to be 2 day shipping on anything you order. Now it’s 2 day shipping once it is shipped.

We are Prime members and take advantage of it when we can but that is some bullshit.

I have a TV in every room in the house and an awesome surround sound in my family room , every TV has a Roku player , I work a ton of hours at the shop and my other business My Wifes and my evening entertainment is binging TV series and multi part movies , My monthly entertainment nut is under $100 for Sling TV (and Spectrum cable internet) , Net flix and Prime thats it ,We dont got out to movies (dont like crowds) and we seldom eat out were very much "home bodies" so $100 a month is cheap. Spectrum cable net is solid and Sling TV seldom has issues 📺

Have you seen the Speed thread?

It's absolutely mind boggling. Speed has taken 8 mil in deposits, and delivered a handful of product.

I could live pretty well, just on the interest on all those deposits. 💪

Interesting times indeed.

There's actually a term for this. Its called enshittification.

The idea is that these streaming companies, who originally were setup and operating in a way unlike cable tv, are now turning into cable tv themselves with the endless price hikes, more ads in screen time and any way they can to jack up profits. They claim its so they can pay for content, but they were doing that well before they started behaving badly.

Its the same old business model. The disruptor arrives in the market, shakes things up and then with growth becomes the badly behaving thing they originally disrupted. Then the next disruptor comes a long and the process repeats.

Cable tv is one of the most hated industries for providing less value for the dollar and being the most annoying. Streaming will soon be the online version, if not already there.

I have the same thought and ask the same question. To me the goal has always been to do the right thing and get everyone the finish line so everyone wins. There is no reason to take advantage of someone and create hardship for them to get to the finish line. It is okay to fire people that have earned to be fired though.

RD is trying to do the same thing for Gummy threads. For $5.99, you won’t be inundated with them every morning.
@RiverDave has done a very good job of not fucking up the mojo here buy monetizing the forum in the wrong ways. Most forums are so whored out they are no longer usable IMO.

Maybe you and I are the dumbshits for trying to provide quality to our clients. I 100% take pride in knowing that I really do try and make things better for my customers every chance I can.

Currently dealing with a 4 party software/update issue that is causing problems for my clients experience. Last week all systems go, this week someone at one of these company’s “fixed some shit” and now nothings is working LOL

Planned obsolescence designed to fuck people out of money in the name of progress and making a better mouse trap. I really have to ask myself just how much progress is being made when we keep fixing problems that were already solved 🤷‍♂️

Based on reading your post by wanting customer satisfaction and dealing with a few technical issues, I'd 100% go with my sales tactic in post #14 to provide an overall quality experience! 🤣

My wife and I were talking the other day….

It would be nice to just say F- it !

And have the ENTIRE middle class just stop !
No spending, no working, no traveling etc - for a few weeks !

Just to point out what we Middle Class folks do.

I believe we are lost and taken for granted , what’s a few cents more in sales tax, your already spending $10 a month we’ll get them to spend $15 or 20 a month…

Most folks don’t even realize what’s going on …. SHEEP 🐑

It is a giant circle. The customer wants a lower price, the service/product provider lowers content or quality to meet the demand for lower prices and next thing you know we have a bunch of Spirit Airlines where you have to pay extra for a seat.........or a bunch of Harbor Freight stores selling tons of tools.....or a bunch of people buying cars from Costco and expecting the dealer to provide great after sales support and service. The quality businesses simply can not compete and go away, leaving shit.

Unless one has a niche business with a niche clientele, the majority of the market is always shopping by price. It is a race for the bottom.

A couple examples.

I had a buddy named Jack. He owned a go kart and cycle place. Eventually the go karts he sold (manco) started also being sold through Costco and other discount stores. People wold go into Jack's store, shop the different models, pick his brain for knowledge, and then go save 40 or 50 bucks buying it from the discount store. And then on top of it, they would buy it at the discount store and then bring it to him to fix something expecting it to be fixed for free.

Another one. I have a buddy with a Lexus store but he runs his stores on a high quality service model versus a volume model. As a result he sells less cars at higher gross but provides great service. Now people come in and take up all this time, then go to the volume stores and save 500 or a 1000 bucks. But the volume stores don't have the people to take the 2 or 3 hours to explain all the features and how they work in a detailed fashion. So they go to his store after buying it from the discount store and demand that someone spends a few hours with them. They want the high end service, but they simply are not willing to pay for it.

It is just how most people are. The consumer demands lower prices, but doesn't want to take responsibility for the natural and rational outcomes. The small business didn't get killed by Walmart, they got killed by the customer who demanded Walmart's prices without regard to the natural outcome.

Fortunately, the tax code specifically prevents the business from taking "round up" donations for themselves. They belong to the person rounding up even though almost no one claims them. It is just a pass through.

@whiteworks once you build your scalable business model, train dedicated employees and invest all your profits to growth, you can sell to Private Equity, or a publicly traded company and take your hard earned profits to a beach somewhere to leave your employees to deal with the wreckage of meeting EBIT expectations, maintaining the growth and layers of Bullshit, in turn your customers will get less services for a greater fee.

That thing you thought was so great about Netflix, it met up with the expectations of capitalism and increasing share holder value.
The same reason your Del Taco got smaller.

I know everyone has different experiences but I ordered something the other day around 1 PM (it was a face trimmer dealio), it was at my house before 10 PM the same day. It is usually the next day delivery. They have built several new facilities in my town so somethings are in stock here, some have to be shipped. Rarely does it take more than 2 days even from "not amazon".

It’s funny, everyone seems to be trying to build some massive fortune so they can have a nice life. I already have a nice life and that fortune building business detracts from it LOL

The story goes like this...

A businessman is on vacation in a small coastal Mexican village. One afternoon, he sees a fisherman pulling in a small boat with a few large fish. Impressed, the businessman strikes up a conversation.

He asks, “How long did it take you to catch those fish?”

The fisherman replies, “Just a couple of hours.”

The businessman says, “Why don’t you fish longer and catch more fish?”

The fisherman shrugs and says, “I have enough to support my family and enjoy my day.”

The businessman, eager to share his wisdom, says, “But if you fish more, you could sell the extra fish, make more money, buy a bigger boat, hire a crew, and eventually build a fleet! You could export fish, open your own company, and become rich!”

The fisherman asks, “How long will that take?”

The businessman replies, “Probably 15 or 20 years.”

“And after that?” asks the fisherman.

The businessman grins and says, “Then you’ll be able to retire, move to a small village, sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siestas with your wife, and spend your evenings drinking wine with friends.”

The fisherman smiles and says, “Isn’t that what I’m doing now?”

A hard working middle class man and a uber wealthy board member of a large conglomerate are riding in a car together and as they approach an intersection they both see an unbelievably beautiful woman standing waiting to cross the road. As they pass by the middle class man says “I’d like to fuck her“ to which the wealthy board member says “out of what?”……..

That's how I see it also. Were 10 days out from our next river trip and if Emerald Cove didnt raise all the cottages daily $$ to 79 a night we wouldn't have canned October.

Always trying to find the balance.

A business man and an engineer are led into a room where a beautiful lady is lying there naked.

The moderator tells both of them they can go half the distance as many times as they want to the beautiful woman.

The engineer says but I’ll never get there. The business man says I’ll get close enough.

You need to stop hanging out at Jimmy John’s!

I'm about to dump Netflix. WE mostly just watch our Mars Box. Kids don't watch TV anymore and the wife and I mostly just watch the news, football or I watch Motortrend or Velocity.

I would call it having good character or being good people.
