I've got a lot of foliage in my backyard and I'm wondering if adding one of these "solar pool covers" would not only help keep the leaves out, but also help warm the pool up during winter season.

Does anyone have experience with these pool covers and can you recommend some good ones?

Solar cover in the winter will not heat the pool. I find it easier to sweep out the leaves without the cover. I removed most of our pool havoc trees in Havasu and Henderson.

I have been using a solar cover for the last few years. It really works to heat the pool in the summer (I've seen it get over 100*), but doesn't do much for temps in the winter. The pool still gets down into the 40's. The Doheny's 3200 cover I bought 18 months ago started disintegrating and as part of the 7 year warranty, they sent me a replacement. At this point, I have not cut it to fit the pool and have instead draped it full size, over the pool, and bought the water bags to secure it in place to keep the debris out of the pool. This is something we are going to try, but removing the cover would be a PITA. I have a reel, which I used when the cover was cut to the size of the pool, but it would not work well with the uncut cover, dragging on the deck to roll it up.

The problem with a poolcover to keep debris out of the pool is removing it without dumping the debris back into the pool.

Just buy a cheap cover off of Amazon 20 by 40 pool 80 bucks but last for 2 or 3 years. In the Spring you just dip the leaves and debris off the cover with a pool net. Then

pump the water off the cover and pull it off the pool done. I use inertubes down the middle to help hold the cover up and pad the pool from ice.
